chapter twenty eight ;; rough encounter

Either way, I don't want you around her.

There was a silence, yet it was so loud. The people he gambled with took a look at you, eyeing your body and smiling, while others looked at the familiar man.

"Ah, sorry, everyone. This here is my sister," He stood up, his lips curling into a grin. "She's come to visit me."

"...I wouldn't voluntarily come to visit you."

"Well, if you're not here to visit, why are you here?"

"I—..." You paused. "Can you just come with me?"

"Oh? I wonder why." He hummed, walking toward you. His taller figure towered over yours, the expression you hadn't seen in years on his face. It was familiar, but it hadn't seemed genuine. "Is it okay if we talk here instead? You should have a seat, we've got a lot of catching up to do."

You sighed. "Fine."

"After you." He pushed his hand forward, gesturing for you to walk forward.

You reluctantly did so, your heels clicking against the concrete floor. When you sat down, you could hear the chuckles of men that'd sat at the table, which happened make your brother a bit... unhappy.

"What're you guys smiling for? Wipe that dumb look off of your faces before I do it for you. Look at her like that again and I'll gouge your fucking eyes out."

You thinned your lips, slightly sinking in the seat.

"Wanna play?" He looked at you with a smile.

"No, thanks. I'm just... here."

"For what, exactly?"

"Uh..." You cleared your throat. "I wanted to see you...?"

"So, you're not here to visit, but you're here to see me?" He raised a brow.

"N-No, that's not what I meant."

"Calm down. Your unbalanced chakra is making me anxious." He laughed. "Well? Are you gonna tell me or not?"

"...Why are you so calm?"

"Hey, you can't change the subject like that. What're you here for?"

"I need you to do something for me... at the village."

"Oh? And what's that?"

"Confidential information. I can't say that... in front of people."

With only a snap of his fingers, everyone besides you and him who'd sat at the table now had their heads against the table, eyes closed and presumably unconscious. Your eyes dilated upon seeing this.

"K-Kenji—!" You stammered. "Why'd you do that...?!"

"Obviously, they've become a nuisance to our conversation. Now, we can talk with no interruptions. It's been a long time since we've had a nice sibling bonding time. Now, what is it that you need me to do, Y/n?"
