As Felix left the cafe to go say hello, he noticed that Chan was already crossing the street, so he decided to go back and sit down and see where he would go. As he sat down again Chan entered the cafe and went to the counter. Felix sat quietly trying to hear what he would order. Chan, unaware of the boy watching him, ordered his regular iced black coffee with one sweetener packet. It didn't take long to make and once it was done he took the drink, paid the barista, said a quick thank you, and left a tip. Then he went to his regular table in the back corner. Felix watched all of these events with an eye like a hawk, constantly wondering if his behavior there would be as different from school as his clothes. Sure enough instead of talking to the people that walked past his table as he would at school he stuffed his black earbuds in his ears and set to work on his laptop. That was when he decided to go over and talk to him.

Chan was working diligently on the new song that he was writing, he had his earbuds in and the app that he used up. He was adding a new bass line to the chorus, because he didn't like the one that he had before, when some random boy came and asked him if he could sit with him. His first response would have been to tell him to go away, but the boy had already sat down and introduced himself as Felix. Chan rolled his eyes subtly, for some reason he didn't want to make this poor boy feel bad, then he went back to working on his song. Apparently the boy didn't notice the fact that he was ignoring him, because he just kept talking seemingly trying to make small talk. He tried to let him off nicely by just not answering him, but even when he didn't answer this boy just told him what he thought or what happened to him and changed the topic. Chan was trying very hard to ignore the boy across from him, but then he said something that shocked him beyond belief.

"Yeah,I saw you go into the bathroom and come out changed. I never guessed that you dressed so differently outside of school versus in school,"

He said it so nonchalantly that he wouldn't have reacted except for the fact that he was trying to keep up an image in school. His head snapped up and he yanked an earbud out saying,

"You go to my school?"

"Yeah, why? Is that a problem?" Felix said hesitantly.

"You can't tell anyone!" Chan was trying to keep calm, and failing miserably, but that wasn't important, he had to get his point across.

"Tell anyone what?" Felix laughed, "That you drink black coffee?"

"No! Please don't tell anyone that I dress like this outside of school!"Chan said desperately with a little exasperation clear in his voice.

"Relax,"Felix sighed heavily, "I have the same problem, I'm trying to keep up my own image as well. I won't tell if you don't,"

"What? I don't think I've even seen you before," Chan said with a questioning look on his face as he seemed to scan the boy across from him up and down. Felix laughed a little self consciously before saying,

"Well, you probably just don't recognize me, here I'll pull up a picture from my Instagram." he paused and took out his phone which had a yellow and white checked case on it. Chan watched intently as he swiped a couple times before humming a little approving noise. He couldn't help but smile a little at how cute that was, and his freckles just made everything better. Then he stopped himself, mentally questioning what he was thinking. He was snapped out of his thoughts when a phone was shoved in his face. Sure enough, there was Felix, but he looked completely different. He was wearing a pair of black pants with a thin white plaid pattern on them, a black turtleneck, a black acid wash denim jacket, a black buckle belt, silver chains, and black combat boots. His straight black hair was parted in the middle and was framing the top of his face and his freckles had disappeared. After taking in the extent of his picture Chan looked him up and down again taking in his appearance. He was wearing a pair of loose high rise jeans, with a white t shirt, an oversized tan cardigan, half framed glasses, and his hair was hanging loosely around his face instead of being obviously styled. I definitely wouldn't have been able to recognize him without the picture that he pulled up, he thought to himself. However now he did.

"Oh,you're in my art class aren't you?" he asked cautiously. Felix's face brightened almost comically,

"You recognized me!" his face was almost swallowed in the giant smile that was plastered on it.

"Yeah, you sat in the back with me today," Chan let a small smile slip a she saw how happy Felix looked at the fact that he had recognized him. Then he leaned back a little when Felix leaned forward slightly invading his space with that same smile on his face.

"You smiled! And you have a dimple!" he said.

"I smile all the time at school," Chan retorted.

"Yeah, but not like that." Felix explained as he ran his hand through his hair, "Your smiles at school aren't really genuine and they seem kind of forced. No offense,"

"Dang it!" Chan brought his hand to his mouth and started to chew on the nail on his first finger. Felix seemed surprised by this outburst.

"Did I say something wrong?" He asked looking very worried.

"Ah, no, I just thought I was doing a pretty good job at faking the smile." he said not looking him in the eyes.

"Ah, that," Felix sat back in his seat, "For most people you probably are doing a pretty good job, but I've always been pretty good at reading people and finding out what they're feeling." Chan stared at Felix in awe as he heard him sharing what he was good at. He would never have been able to do that, especially to someone he had just met.

"What?" Felix asked, "Do I have something in my teeth?" he ran his tongue across his teeth.

"Ha, no," Chan breathed, "You just seem awfully comfortable with sharing what you think you're good at," he looked down a little. Felix looked confused.

"Of course, do you not share what you're good at with other people?" he asked. Chan paused for a second before saying,

"Well, let's just say that my family's not super supportive of me and what I think,"

Felix looked at him before saying,

"Well, I would say I was sorry, but you don't seem like the kind of person who would want sympathy," Chan looked at him, astounded. He had opened his mouth to say something again when he got a text. He pulled his phone out of his bag and looked at the screen.

Sister>:(: My friends are gone, and dad wants you home. Now.

Me:Okay

Chan turned back to Felix and said

"I have to go. Do you come to this cafe everyday after school?" Felix smiled brightly before replying that he did. Then he grabbed a napkin and a pen and wrote his number down sliding it across the table toward Chan.

"Here," he said "In case you ever want to talk, I'm always here. Also I want to hear what you're good at, or as you put it, what you think you're good at." he let out a small laugh, "I'll see you tomorrow, yeah?" Chan smiled a small smile and replied

"See you tomorrow," then he packed his stuff up and walked out the door. Stopping halfway across the window in the front to see Felix with his earbuds in his ears smiling as he typed on his laptop. Felix looked up to see Chan there and smiled at him before waving. Chan took a breath before hesitantly waving back. Felix's smile widened when he waved. Then he turned back to his laptop as Chan walked out of his sight. So this is what it's like having a friend, is what they were both thinking.

A/N: If there are any places that I refer to Chan as Faith, or Lix as Noah, and/or use the wrong pronouns for Chan, it's because I started writing this for a straight couple, and being the hypocrite that I am said "Ew, heteros" and switched it to Chanlix. I hope you enjoyed this chapter of Sides! I might double update today, so keep your eyes peeled for that. Signing out, Blueberrt Muffun :) <3
