When Felix asked if we could Facetime over dinner I was shocked to say the least. I'd never eaten dinner with anyone except family and extended family. I mean I guess I'm not really eating dinner with Felix's family since it's over Facetime, I thought to myself, but it's still kind of eating with somebody. Anyways I obviously didn't want to feel like an outsider while they were eating, but Felix insisted that it would be fine saying, the more the merrier, what is he? Ninety? Anyways I told him that I would do it, but to let me get my food up to my room. He said that was fine and I should call him when I was ready. I carried my food up to my room, grabbed the table that I normally used to put my homework on when I was allowed home, and put my food on it. Then I sat with my legs under the table and my phone in my hand having an internal battle about whether or not I should call Felix now or ask him to call instead, thanks social anxiety! I was about to text him to ask him if he could call instead when my thumb slipped and I accidentally clicked the call button.
He answered almost right away, but those couple split seconds before he did were absolute torture. I wasn't even sure if he was going to answer at all or if this was some sort of twisted prank. Then the ringing screen disappeared and I was faced with Felix, a younger girl that looked about three or four, a middle aged woman, and a middle aged man looking right at me.
"Hello?" I said hoping and praying that I didn't sound too anxious. Then the other side of the call exploded.
"Hi!" his younger sister it looked like,
"Hello sweetheart!" his Mom I'm guessing,
"Hello," his Dad probably,
"Hi Chan!" Felix. The look on my face must have been priceless because he started laughing. I'd never been greeted that enthusiastically ever, even by my extended family it was normally like, hi Chan, the table's over there. Oh my word! Victoria! How are you darling? Yeah, Victoria's always been the favorite, the favorite child, favorite grandchild, favorite student. Apparently I'm just either invisible or not good enough.
"We're just sitting down to eat and talk with you!" Felix's Mom said as she began taking plates and putting what looked like spaghetti on them.
"Okay, sounds good. Um, first can I get like names or something so I don't have to refer to you as Felix's parents and little sister?" I asked a little apprehensively, not wanting to sound rude.
"Oh, of course!" Felix's Dad smiled and pointed around the table saying names, "I'm Jake, this is my wife, Felix's mom, Rose, and this is our lovely daughter, Felicity, and you already know Felix." He smiled at me. I looked at all of the people as he pointed them out then I said,
"I'm Chan." Felix's Dad, no, Jake smiled wider at me before saying
"We already know your name Felix said it when he answered the phone,"
"Oh, sorry."I looked down. Then I heard,
"Jake! He's our guest be polite!" I looked up to see Rose glaring daggers at Jake. I let out a small giggle before saying,
"No, that's okay Miss Rose, I'm just not used to meeting people's families very often."
"Oh, just Rose is fine, Miss Rose makes me sound like a teacher." Rose said, her eyes almost disappearing from how big she was smiling. I guess that's where Felix got his smile from. Then I heard Felix's voice,
"Mom, you are a teacher." he laughed as he shoveled spaghetti into his mouth. I laughed a little before speaking up again,
"I don't think the spaghetti is going to disappear if you don't eat it fast enough." Jake started laughing while Rose rolled her eyes,
"I've been telling him that for years, he just can't seem to slow down when there's food."
(mood)
Felix looked at his Mom with a mischievous glint in his eyes,
"At least I don't take hours to eat when there are people around." He looked at her pointedly before retreating back to his spaghetti again. Rose's ears turned red as she stood up a little,
"Why, I- I ought to scold you!" then she sat down again, dejectedly putting some of the spaghetti into her mouth. I laughed a little to myself before putting a little bit of the fried rice that I made into my mouth. Then I heard a little girls voice saying my name,
"Channie, can I call you Channie? You can call me Lissie! I don't like the name Felicity, but that's what everyone calls me at Pre-school. How old are you? I'm three, but Mom says that she thinks that I'm five sometimes because I like to do chores and help around the house. Do you like to vacuum? I do! It's my favorite chore!" I didn't think that Felicity would talk, she hadn't said anything since her little hi at the beginning, but now like any other three year old would do she was spouting out question after question. I smiled a little before answering her,
"Yes, you can call me Channie, I'm sixteen almost seventeen, and I do like to vacuum! It's nice to meet you Lissie!" she smiled and started wriggling around it her chair excitedly. I continued eating and talking with Felix and his family for a while. It turned out that Felix had just turned sixteen and I was older than him. Their whole family was also from Australia, just like me! Then I looked at the time and spoke up,
"Oh shoot! I gotta go! It was nice meeting you all and I hope that we'll be able to talk some more at some point!" I said into the phone as I downed the rest of my water and prepared to hang up.
"Of course! It was nice to meet you Chan! I hope that you have a wonderful evening!"Rose said as she stood up taking some of the dishes over to the sink. Then Jake and Lissie said goodbye, finally Felix resurfaced from the sea of spaghetti that was in front of him.
"Bye Chan! I'll see you tomorrow at school! And then at the cafe again?" I let out a small, ha, before motioning to around my mouth,
"You grew a sauce beard, and yes, that sounds great! Just don't forget what I told you earlier." Felix smiled as he wiped the sauce off of his face,
"Of course,"he sent me a wink, "I'll see you tomorrow then!" I rolled my eyes at the wink then hit the end call button on the screen of my phone. After I hung up I gathered my dishes and headed downstairs to do the dishes and clean the house. As I stood at the sink where all the dishes were piled I plugged my headphones in and smiled a little at the recollection of the wonderful dinner I had just had. It was definitely better than any family dinner I had ever had. I hope that I'll get to talk to them again, I thought to myself, maybe next time we can meet in person. That way I won't have to worry about my family barging in at any time. I filled the sink with warm soapy water, since our dishwasher was broken and since my father didn't think that a dishwasher was that important, we washed all of our dishes my hand.Well, I washed all of our dishes by hand. I was really looking forward to school tomorrow and then the cafe after that. I got the vacuum out so that I could start cleaning the rest of the rooms. Just then my phone vibrated. I pulled it out and looked at the screen.
Felix: i want to see what you were working on with your laptop when we meet
at the cafe tomorrow ;)
I rolled my eyes then replied.
Me:Okay, but you can't tell anyone about that either!
If you do, you're dead.
Felix: ooooohhh scaarryy!!!
dont worry i wont tell anyone we all have our secrets ;)
A/N: I hope you enjoyed today's installment of Sides! I did use Jake from Enhypen and Rose from Blackpink as Felix's parents because they're two other Aussies in the K-pop world so I just thought that it fit. I know that Jake's two years younger than Felix in real life, but I just thought that it fit. I also wasn't able to find the accent mark for Rose's name, so there's that too, hehe oops... Don't be afraid to comment and tell me something that you like or something that you don't like! I'll try my best to take all opinions into account! Signing out, Blueberrt Muffun :) <3
