Felix was scrolling through Instagram while he waited to go into the school. He had just put his phone away and was about to walk in when he saw the bus pull up.
“Shoot! I didn't tell Ryan that I wasn't taking the bus today.” He ran to where the bus stopped and waited for the other boy to get off. When the lanky brown haired boy got off he walked right over to where Felix was standing. Felix took a breath ready to spout a thousand apologies, but Ryan interrupted him,
“Where were you? You made me look like a loser, sitting by myself. Are you dumb?” He smacked Felix's forehead. “Don't follow me.” Felix watched Ryan's back slowly get farther away before silently walking to his locker and putting his backpack in. His classes passed at turtle speed, and he almost wished they had passed even slower. He was dreading lunch when he would have to go sit with Ryan and his friend group. But unfortunately he couldn't control time and the lunch bell rang.
He walked as slowly as he could to the cafeteria trying to make as many pit stops on the way as he could. He even stopped to tie his non-existent shoe laces at one point. But you can't delay the inevitable no matter how hard you try.
“Hey!” Felix flinched looking up towards where the sound had come from. Ryan crooked his finger towards Felix motioning for him to come sit down. Slowly he walked towards the table before sliding into the seat next to the nicest person in the group, Lucas. But he knew that even Lucas couldn't prevent what was going to happen to him.
“Well? You know what happens when you mess up, right?” Ryan shoved his food tray towards Felix, motioning him to pick it up. Felix picked it him and walked over towards Ryan. Lucas watched sympathetically, waiting to hear Ryan's order for Felix.
“Go trip and dump this on him.” Felix looked to where Ryan was pointing only to find him pointing at Chan.
“Why him?” Lucas asked carefully, “Felix might get attacked by the people who like him” Ryan shrugged.
“He's wearing pink. That's a girl color.”
“Says who?” Ryan whipped around trying to find who had dared to contradict him.
“Says who?” Felix said a little louder. “Colors don't have a gender. Also didn't I just see you wearing a purple ring the other day? Isn't purple also a stereotypically quote un-quote girl color?” Felix raised a challenging eyebrow looking down at Ryan. Ryan scoffed.
“Are you arguing with me?”
“And what if I am?” Felix said defiantly. “What are you going to do about it? Cry? Yeah, cry. Like the momma's boy you are!” Sorry mom, Felix thought, I love you! Ryan let out a heavy breath standing up to look down at Felix.
“Hey, I'm already mad, are you trying to die?”
“I'm just saying, don't you think that's a little ridiculous? It's a color.” Felix deadpanned looking directly into the taller boys eyes.
“You know, I kind of agree with Felix.” Lucas finally spoke up after listening to them argue for a couple minutes, “That's a ridiculous reason to dump a bunch of food on somebody. In fact all of your reasons have been pretty ridiculous.” Felix looked over and nodded gratefully at Lucas who nodded back. Ryan huffed,
“You wanna die, Wong? Shut up and sit down!” Lucas stared back at Ryan for a while before scoffing and walking away, “I'll deal with him later. Now then, Felix, are you going to shut up or are you looking to get punched?”
“I don't know, Ryan," Felix growled out the other boy's name, dropping his voice an octave. "Are you going to stop being a jerk?” At this some of the other people at the table started to whisper to each other. Ryan glared around the table until the whispering came to a complete stop.
“So now you're bold? Let's see just how bold you are after school by the bleachers.”
“Why not just finish it now? We're already here.” Felix retorted.
“You just want the teachers to see. Bleachers. After school. You don't show up, much worse things will happen to you and Lucas.” Ryan glared down at Felix before walking away with the rest of the guys following after him. Felix let out a breath before sinking back into his seat and sending a small smile at the back of Chan's head.
After school that day Felix walked over to the bleachers to meet Ryan and the rest of the guys. When he got there he found Lucas already there with his head down and his hands clasped behind him.
“Ah, here comes the star of the show!” Ryan said sarcastically, clapping slowly. “Come on then, don't be shy!” he walked over to Felix throwing an arm around his shoulders before leading him to the rest of the group. The rest of the boys looked at him almost sympathetically, but Felix just stood there defiantly staring them down. Ryan laughed,
“Look at you trying to be all brave! How pathetic.” he walked over to Lucas leering at him. “You thought that you could stand up to me because this punk did? Ha! Now you receive the consequences.” he raised his hand, and then.
“Stop!” Ryan froze looking over to where Felix was. His hands were clenched and his eyes ablaze. “Do it to me.”
“What?” Ryan seethed glaring at the boy. Felix squared his shoulders and glared right back.
“I said, do it to me.” He slipped into his low voice again and the boys around shivered slightly. Ryan froze for a second and then smirked.
“You sure? Alright, you asked for it.” he walked over and raised his fist once more, but this time another voice called out.
“Hey!” The boys whipped around to find the janitor, Mr. Kim, walking towards them. “What are you boys still doing here? Don't you all have anything better to do?” Ryan hit Felix's shoulder in what seemed like a friendly gesture.
“Sorry about that! Me and my friends were just talking a bit before splitting up again. We don't really see each other outside of school. We'll leave now!” Ryan and the boys, except Lucas and Felix, walked away laughing and talking.
“We're extremely sorry sir! We're leaving! Have a nice day!” Felix ducked his head down again and again before flashing a small smile at the janitor. Mr. Kim smiled,
“That's completely fine, uh, what were your names again?”
“I'm Felix and this is Lucas, the boys that just walked away were Ryan, Matthew, Andrew, and Joseph.” The raven haired boy let out a slightly bigger smile as Lucas put up a hand in greeting. “Sorry again for bothering you sir! We'll leave you to your job now! Have a nice day!” Felix finished and turned to walk away, motioning for Lucas to follow. Mr. Kim's smile grew as the two boys walked away. He'd have to tell his boyfriend, Mark, about this black haired boy named Felix when he got home, he reminded him a lot of his boyfriend.
When the two boys had gotten far enough away from Mr. Kim Lucas turned curiously to Felix.
“I've never seen you smile before! What brought that on? I mean, you were just about to get hit by Ryan and you still smiled.” The corner of Felix's mouth twitched before he spoke,
“I just like to smile at people, especially because Mr. Kim saved me from getting hit by Ryan. I don't really smile at school because Ryan told me that it didn't fit with my image.” Lucas let out a small “oh” before looking down at his feet.
“Hey," He started quietly. "I'm sorry that I've never stood up to Ryan before today.” Felix looked over at the blue haired boy before replying.
“It's okay, Ryan can be kind of intimidating.” he let out a small giggle, “But he looked pretty scared when I used my deep voice.” Lucas laughed.
“He sure did! I'll see you tomorrow, I've got somewhere to be.” He walked away waving back at the shorter who was standing by the gate.
“I'm sorry Felix, I never wanted to do this.” He whispered to himself with a sorrowful look in his eyes as he pulled out an edited picture of another boy from his school with his arm wrapped around Felix, you couldn't see the other boys face, but you could clearly tell the one was Felix. “But I can't deal with Ryan like you can.” He posted the picture on the school forum with the caption “Is he gay?”. Then he continued walking for a bit before he felt an arm around his shoulders.
“Good job, Lucas!” Ryan said smugly, “I won't bother you for a little bit, or at least until I need you again.” Lucas watched his back get farther away. Then he sighed and walked to the bus stopA/N: I hope you enjoyed this chapter! Something fun is in the workings in the next chapter so.... I'm super excited about that!
