All three of the teens were nervous. Chan and Victoria most of all. After all, this was their dad they're talking about. Felix had run to the grocery store to pick up a pack of steak and some vegetables while Chan and Victoria started the grill and potatoes.

"So.... When did you figure out you were a lesbian?" Chan broke the silence.

"Mm, I kinda always knew I guess." Victoria mused. "My reasoning at first was just, who would actually like men? They're just gross and weird, honestly."

"Rude. You realize you're talking to a guy who has a boyfriend, right?" Chan raised a brow.

"Oh right, you like guys." Victoria laughed. "I don't, though. But that was always just there. And I saw plenty of straight girls complaining about men, so it didn't really phase me. Until I started having fantasies about kissing my best friend at the time. Then I was like, huh, I don't think a straight girl would think about that. So I brought it up as a kind of joke to her and she got grossed out. Needless to say, we're not friends anymore. I don't need that kind of person in my life."

"I guess... But do you ever think she might have just been repressing something? You know Ryan?" Chan asked.

"Uh, yeah, everybody knows Ryan. He's literally the personification of white, cis male, privilege. Who wouldn't?"

"Right, and you thought he was homophobic?"

"Duh. Why are you asking me this?" Victoria put the potato she was peeling down. "Don't tell me you're dating him too?"

"Oh, no." Chan shook his head vigorously. "That's not my thing. But he's not just homophobic. He's got some history with gay people and I think he was just projecting."

"Okay? That doesn't excuse his behavior. I'm not sure why you're telling me this."

"I'm not trying to excuse his behavior I'm just saying he's gotten better." Chan rolled his eyes. "Listen before you say something."

"Dang, okay." Victoria looked him up and down. "Continue."

"Lix and I talked to him after school one day. He's getting counseling now. I can't share the details, but it would be pretty scarring if we experienced it."

"Right. Is he at least apologizing to the people he hurt?" The girl side eyed Chan.

"Yes. He started with me and Lix."

"Lix and I."

"Really? A grammar lesson now?"

"Someone's gotta do it."

"Right..."

Just then the door opened. Heavy footsteps headed toward the kitchen. Chan and Victoria tensed. Victoria quickly pulled her hair out of the ponytail she had it in and Chan pulled a beanie over his own hair.

"What are you guys doing?" Felix asked, setting the grocery bags he was carrying down. "I brought beef." Chan and Victoria breathed a sigh of relief.

"We thought you were father." Chan laughed slightly.

"Right. And the beanie was totally subtle. Because everybody wears beanies in ninety degree weather." Felix rolled his eyes. "At least wear a baseball cap or something. Besides he let you go blonde, what's wrong with your hair now?"

"Um..."

"It's a bit colorful." Victoria supplied. "Father might have a problem with the turquoise, not to mention the pink."

"Oh... Should I have gone with green or red? Those were my second choices." Felix shrunk.

"No, no, no. I love my hair." Chan reassured the freckled boy quickly. "We're just a little uptight right now." He went over and pulled the blonde into a hug.
