"Felix!" Chan called down the hallway of their college apartment. The younger boy was in his room, doing who knows what. The two boys were in their third year at college. They were currently sharing an apartment with two other people, Michael and Paris. Felix and Chan had met the two other boys in their first year math class and had hit it off immediately. They roomed together almost every year after that.
Chan, Paris, and Michael were in the living room waiting for Felix to turn the lights of their tree on for the first time that year. It was night time on Christmas day, and none of them had been able to go home for the holidays, since their houses were so far away. Paris was from New Jersey in the US and Michael was from England. Chan and Felix could have gone home, but the plane tickets had gone up in price during the holiday season, so after talking to their parents, they decided staying on campus for Christmas would be best for all of them.
"Lixie, baby, we're waiting on you." Chan yelled again.
"Hold your horses!" Felix's voice rang through the apartment. Chan sighed. A couple seconds later a door burst open and Felix came running down the hall with a pile of wrapped gifts and baked goods in his hands.
"Mom sent these." He said, piling the things under the tree. Then he sat down with a deep sigh, leaning on his hands and looking at the tree in admiration.
"Pretty isn't it?" Paris mused, his arm around Michael as they both sat on the couch. Felix nodded and scooted closer to Chan, resting his head on the older boy's shoulder. Chan smiled and patted his head.
"Shall we light it?" He asked looking at the other three boys. Cheers ensued as Chan stood up and walked over to where the outlet was. The plug touched the outlet and the boys held their breath in anticipation. Then the world went black.
"Who turned out the lights?" Michael joked. When all that answered him was frantic rustling he asked again. "No seriously, who turned out the lights?"
"I'm not sure." Felix finally answered. "I'm trying to figure out what happened. Ow! That was my head!"
"Sorry, mate." Chan mumbled. "I thought you were the wall."
"Why would you kick the wall? And you're mate zoning me now?" Felix grumbled as he rubbed his head.
"Sorry..." Chan was poking around where he thought the tree was. Then a light flashed behind him and he turned to see a face illuminated. He and Felix let out loud screams.
"Calm yourselves, geez. Did you forget we have flashlights on our phones?" Michael rolled his eyes. Paris nodded as he pointed the flashlight around their apartment.
"Yeah, Chan, there are flashlights on our phones." Felix chided.
"Shut up. You screamed too." Chan retorted, pulling his own phone out of his pocket.
"Shhh!"
"Oh Felix. We all know you screamed, you can't hide it from us." Paris giggled. Then a phone began to ring. Felix picked it up and answered it.
"Hello?"
"Hello, is this one of the residents of Maple Cottage?" The voice on the phone said.
"Yes, we're all here. Shall I put you on speaker?" Felix responded. When the caller answered affirmatively, he did that.
"I regret to inform you that we've had a power outage in our district. We're going to try our best to fix it as quickly as possible. I hope this didn't mess up any plans."
"Of course not." Chan reassured the person on the line.
"Thank you for trying to fix it." Felix nodded.
