Chan walked to the cafe thinking about what had happened at school today. He had looked over to the “hot boys” table and seen the leader standing up towering over somebody else, they looked like they were in a heated argument. But Chan couldn't have done anything about it. Once Ryan had set his mind to disciplining someone, you couldn't stop him. So Chan had just walked away.
He could have sworn he heard his name at one point, but he must have been hallucinating. He did hear an extremely deep voice though that would be perfect for a new song he was working on, but like he would want to work with any of the “hot boys”. They were too stuck up.
When he reached the cafe he got changed quickly before ordering his regular iced black coffee and sitting at his table to wait for Felix. While he was waiting he went on his phone to look at Twitter.
He had released one of his songs anonymously and liked to go on Twitter to look at the people freaking out over it. It probably helped that his profile picture was one of his hands after he had worked out and you could see all the veins. At that moment he got a text.
Father: I'm having someone over tonight find somewhere else to stay.
Me: Okay.
Great, now what!
“I'm here, I'm here!” Felix rushed into the cafe still in his school clothes. “Hold on, lemme go get changed and then I'll join you!” Chan nodded wordlessly. Felix grinned back before rushing to the bathroom with his backpack in his hands.
“Ah, Felix! I could ask him if I could stay at his house tonight. I mean I know we just met, but like, we're friends right? I'll have to ask him.” Chan was thinking out loud.
“Ask who what?” Felix asked plopping down in the chair across from him and setting his bag down. Chan jumped a little.
“Oh, I was going to ask you if I could stay over at your house tonight. My dad's having someone over and I don't have anywhere else to stay.” Chan explained drawing patterns in the condensation on his iced coffee.
“Yeah! That'd be fun! My parents wanted to meet you anyways. I'll just ask them really quick!” Chan looked up to find Felix on his phone typing away furiously. Wow, no one's ever been this excited about the idea of hanging out with me, he thought to himself. He was pulled from his thoughts when Felix said something else.
“They said it's okay if you come over. Do we need to stop at your house for anything?”
“Oh, I didn't think of that. Hold on a sec.” Chan picked his phone up.
Me: Can I stop by and grab some clothes and toiletries?
Father: No, my guest is already here.
Me: Okay.
Chan looked up to answer Felix's question when he was interrupted by a squeal.
“Oh my gosh! CB97 posted a new song!” Felix was looking at his phone with an excited flush on his face.
“CB97?” Chan asked.
“Yeah! He's a producer who posts songs on Twitter. Have you heard any of his songs? He's really good! Here, I'll play one for you.” Felix scrolled through his phone oblivious to the boy across from him who was having an internal battle about whether he should tell Felix that he was CB97 or if he should listen to what he has to say about him. And of course being the evil guy that he was, he decided to let this play out.
“Oh, yeah, I've heard of him. Isn't he the guy that has a hand as his profile picture? Don't you think that's a bit weird?” Felix looked up from his phone to stare in disbelief at Chan.
“Dude. Hands are hot! That's why it doesn't really surprise me that most of his followers are girls and gays. I mean like, those are the superiors in society, which means they have superior taste. So, yeah, shut up and listen to this song! It's one of my favorites.” Chan rolled his eyes before taking the earbud that was offered to him. He listened to the first couple of beats before realizing which song it was. Internally cringing he tried to pretend to be unimpressed while regretting making this song at all. He had gotten a DM on Twitter from two other producers who wanted to collaborate with him. He agreed after checking out some of their songs. They ended up writing this abomination.
“Woooow, she's hot, hot hot hot,” came the chorus. Then Felix looked at the screen.
“Wait, that's not the right song! Sorry!” he yanked the earbud out of Chan's ear and clicked a different one. Chan relaxed as he heard the first beats of one of his solo songs, Don't Want to Acknowlegde. Now this song he was proud of. He looked over at Felix who was swaying along with the beat. Then he pulled the earbud out of his ear, handing it back to Felix.
“I've heard enough, he's talented.” He deadpanned. Felix looked shocked, but he accepted the earbud.
“I liked your song too.” he said timidly. Chan's mouth twitched.
“Thanks.” he said shortly.
“Oh yeah, did you get a response? Should we stop by your house before we go back to mine?” Felix asked.
“Nah, it's okay. I packed some extra clothes anyways.”
“You mean, other than your school clothes and the ones you're wearing now?” Felix looked at him suspiciously. Chan stared back desperately trying to think of something to say.
“It's okay if you don't. I have some clothes that might fit you!” Chan looked the boy across from him up and down taking in the bright yellow sweater, jeans, and checkered belt.
“Um, okay.” He said hesitantly.
“I meant I have clothes that you'll like.” Felix sighed exasperatedly.
“Oh.” Felix rolled his eyes.
“Come on, dinner's at five thirty. It's almost five now, if we hurry we can catch the bus, if not we might be late.” Felix said standing up and walking over to the counter. He placed a ten dollar bill in the tip jar before flashing a bright smile at the barista and gesturing to Chan to hurry. Chan quickly packed his stuff up before rushing out the door nodding to the barista.
“Ah, young love. Remember when we were like that Dawn?” The barista, Hyuna, looked over at her husband who was washing tables.
“Indeed I do, sweetheart. I'm glad that we're still thriving like that now.” He smiled before kissing her cheek across the counter. She giggled pushing his shoulder slightly.
“Come on, it's closing time
