Chapter 24

And it happened... nothing.

They all remained silent, trying to hear or see any chance. "Seriously?", Chae uttered and pressed the button again.

"Can." Press.

"This." Again.

"Damn." And again.

"Shit."

"Just-"

Suddenly, the floor started to shake. Seulgi was startled and pressed herself at the wall, but it continued with no mercy. Meanwhile Irene was screaming like hell, Wendy as well, Mina furrowed her eyebrows and Chae... she grinned.

"We are dying!", Wendy yelled and grabbed Seulgi's arm.

"I have never doubt about that", the latter replied.

A ear-wrecking noise appeared. Like thousands of rusty gearwheels started to move at the same time.

After some seconds, the floor started to split. Yeah, to split in TWO halfs. She closed her eyes for a moment and tried to get a clear mind.

But how hard Seulgi tried, no helpful ideas came to her mind. Why hasn't she read this stupid 'how-to-help-yourself-in-every-stage-of-life' book which Wendy gave her last year?

They all gathered in the nearest corner of the hall to enjoy their last moments of life. Mina was still way too calm for her, but at least Chae was screaming and yelling now like her life depended on it. BECAUSE IT DID!

"I hate you Chae for your stupid ideas. But somehow I also love you all!", Wendy shouted.

"I love you too guys!", Seulgi replied while crying.

"Yeah me too. If we survive this, please help me to find a girlfriend!", Chae screamed.

"We will!", Irene said.

"Omg guys you make such a drama out of this all..."

"Huh?" Seulgi opened her eyes. While they were screaming, the noises had disappeared, besides the floor wasn't shaky anymore too.

"Do you think Arnold Priston followed the intention of killing his students?", Mina calmly asked and chuckled.

"We aren't dying?", Irene slowly asked, still glued to Seulgi and Wendy.

"I don't think so. There just appeared this." She pointed at the middle of the hall. Instead of a huge column of the splitted floor, one could see now a big checked platform. Which chess figures on it. All spreaded on the field.

"I swear to god I'll kill you", Wendy grumbled and was about to chase Chae, but as she saw the chess field too, she hesistated.

"What's that?"

"A chess field", Mina replied.

"I have eyes too. WHY the heck is there a chess field?"

"I don't know."

They walked towards the huge figures in black and white. Slowly, but careful. "Can we set up one rule?", Seulgi silently suggested and lifted her index finger. They nodded.

"Nobody should touch something without the permission of others."

Everybody stared at Chae. "What? I was curious!", she defended herself but nodded. Fine... now they had one concern less.

"Think we have to play it", Mina said and approached the king.

"You mean like in Harry Potter?" Seulgi joined her.
