Returning To The Winery - Chapter 8

The sun rises and wakes y/n from her sleep. She rubs her eyes as she stirs. Sitting up looking at the window she turns to see Diluc is gone. Y/n looks around the room confused as to where he could be. She notices his shoes in the corner, so he must be in the bathroom. Suddenly y/n hears the bathroom doorknob start to open and rests her head back down in a quick reflex. She wasn't too sure as to why she did so. Diluc opens the door with his shirt off and a towel around his waist. Y/n has her eye slightly open and sees him. She blushes bright red hoping he doesn't notice her. She quickly closes her eyes pretending to be asleep

Diluc POV

She is still asleep? I guess she really needed that rest... I pick up my clothes from the couch and take them back into the bathroom to get changed. She better not take long. I don't want to be the one to wake her up. Once I got changed I went back into the room and see y/n sitting up in bed. She looked a little red in the face. Was she too hot last night? I see her face me

Y/n: m-morning
Diluc: morning. Did you sleep ok?
Y/n: y-yes thank you... umm thanks for taking me to the bed too. You didn't have to do that.
Diluc: umm actually I did, you kinda fell asleep on my shoulder...
Y/n: I-I did?! I'm so sorry!
Diluc: it's ok... you had a long day... clearly you just aren't used to staying up too late
Y/n: *chuckles* guess I'm not... anyways I'm going to get washed before we leave. If that's ok?
Diluc: Um yeah sure go for it...

Y/n goes to the bathroom and bathes in the water. It was so cold. She still wasn't used to having no hot water. She quickly washes herself and puts her clothes back on, she then dries her hair as best as she could with a towel and tied it back. When she steps back into the room she sees Diluc sitting on the sofa waiting for her. Diluc could see her shivering as she came back into the room.

Diluc: you alright?
Y/n: y-yeah I'm just not used to the cold water?
Diluc: what do you mean?
Y/n: let's just say that in my world, we have hot water...
Diluc: really? That's fascinating? How do fish swim in your oceans?
Y/n: no it's not like that. We basically have heated water for baths. We can adjust the temperature with a tap. It allows us to relax in a bath...

Diluc walks up to y/n. He gets close to her and takes off his gloves. His face was so close to y/n's. She blushes, confused as to what he was doing. She didn't know if she should step away or to yell at him for getting too close. She was too nervous that she stood there frozen. He placed his hands on her arms. She could feel his breath on her face. Suddenly she could feel heat from his finger tips heating her arms. The heat travelled down through her body, not only from his hands. But from how flushed she felt with him touching her.

Diluc: better?
Y/n: y-yeah... umm th-thank you...
Diluc: good...

Diluc let's go of  y/n and places his gloves back on. Not noticing how much y/n was blushing. They both leave the room and hand in the key, heading back to the horse and cart. Y/n hops on the carriage first and Diluc does too once she does. He uses the reins to set off the horse and they leave Liyue. Once they arrive at the winery, y/n and Diluc get off the cart. Diluc has the horse ushered away by one of his workers. He then approached y/n.

Diluc: I believe I offered you a a job?
Y/n: well that depends... did I manage to escort the stock successfully to Liyue?
Diluc: I believe you did... here's the thing. I can offer you a job and room. But no one can know about the room. If anyone asks where you are living, just say that you are staying somewhere outside the city
Y/n: what why?
Diluc: *sighs* because the room is mine...
Y/n: what?!
Diluc: not much reason for me to have it. You know I don't sleep anyways. It's just a temporary solution
Y/n: why do I have to keep it a secret though?
Diluc: because... I don't want people to be concerned about me, or question as to why you are staying in my room and not me... I have business in Mondstadt at night. And I'd rather not have people asking about it
Y/n: I-I see I'll keep your secret... so... what is the job?
Diluc: ... how do you feel about being my assistant?
Y/n: ...I'm sorry what?!
Diluc: well by the looks of things I'm going to be over loaded with work and I need someone to help me out with that.
Y/n: isn't there a different girl you want?
Diluc: well most girls around here are either really annoying or working for me for the wrong reasons. I thought you would be the less annoying choice
Y/n: gee thanks...
Diluc: ...I'll show you where you will be living.

Your POV

Diluc escorts me inside the Winery. And shows me upstairs. He stops at a door that he then unlocks. Opening the door he reveals a huge room. Stepping in made me realise how high of an authority he must have. The room was insanely fancy, with beautiful red wallpaper pasted on the walls and a king sized bed with a chandelier centred on the ceiling. I gasp in amazement

Diluc: what are you so surprised about?
Y/n: this room! It's stunning!
Diluc: well, thank you... my father actually decorated it...
Y/n: ... he did a great job... so umm... when do I start work?
Diluc: I'll let you have the day to yourself. You can start work tomorrow. You can gather your things from the headquarters...
Y/n: wait how did you know that I was saying there?
Diluc: umm kaeya told me...
Y/n: oh...
Diluc: I expect to see you downstairs first thing tomorrow...

Your POV

His tone changed on that last sentence. Last night and this morning he seemed like a different person. Like he was a more caring person. But that last sentence ran needles into my skin. It was as if everything went back to normal again... like he was the same bitter person... now that I was to work for him... was he going to be like this to me all the time? Was this job really something I wanted? Was it really worth it? I decided to ignore his tone and do as he asks. I leave the winery and back to the knights of Favonius, to get all my things. I needed to hand in the keys and thank Jean for her kindness
