The UV blasts were painful. The whole-cell block was lined with them so there was no safety. Nora, I & baby eater had to suffer through it. Eric just had to fake it & was very convincing. Lucky him that Maria gave her blood when she did. They kept at it until we passed out. When I woke up, I was locked up in a chair with an IV connected. It was clear this was an interrogation as I was alone.
"Hello Mr. Compton. I'm Dieter Braun. It is a pleasure to finally meet you." A lanky brunette man greeted. Despite my groggy state, I saw he had a book tucked into his side.
"I bet you say that to all the prisoners." I mumbled, getting a smirk
"I'm sorry about the ultraviolet lights. It beats the interrogation procedure." He said as he got settled
"Now full disclosure, your iv is connected to a solution of electrolytically refined silver. And I'm afraid that's as pure as it gets." He revealed as he sat down
"Now Mr. Compton, Nora is a chancellor of the Authority. For her to...conspire, to allow you & Mr. Northman to escape. That is treason. Which I find uuh curious." He prodded
"I do too." I replied
"Which is why I need to know why she did it." He pressured
"Have you asked her?" I suggested
"Yes. I have spoken to her & Mr. Nothman. But I would like to hear what you have to say." He said
"Do you know what this is?" He asked as he tapped the book
"It's a bible." I answered
"Old or new testament?" He asked
"Neither. Predates both. It's the original testament. Vampire bible." I replied
"It states that before God created Adam & Eve. He created Lilith who like God was vampire." I added
"Exactly. We were created in God's image. Not humans." He praised
"Now do you recall what our bible tells us of humans?" He asked
"Pheew, if memory serves. It speaks of Adam & Eve's true purpose." I recalled
"And their flesh shall nourish yours. Their blood shall flow within you. For as the beacon nourishes the lark so shall humans nourish vampire." He received
"Powerful stuff. Do you believe it?" He inquired
"Believe what?" I asked
"The literal translation of our sacred text? That humans are nothing more than our food." He expanded
"I do not." I sneered
"This Mr. Compton is where things begin to get a bit tricky." He stated as he got up & grabbed a small device
"There are fundamentalist that do believe. Your friend Nora is one. That humans are farmed for food. Nothing more. Emotional alliances between vampire & human are blasphemy." He revealed
"I have know vampires who think like this. But, I can assure you that is not my philosophy." I stated
"No. This Guardianship has struggled to make co-existence with humans a lasting reality." He replied, as he sat down again
"Now, not to sound paranoid. But, there are outside forces moving against us. In time this may include you." He sighed
"Do believe in the literal interpretation of our sacred text?" He repeated, staring deep into my eyes for any sign of deception
