Even after obtaining a significant other, you still happily indulged in otome games. Any game you could think of, you probably played it or planning on playing it. Yes, you had to admit, they were uber cheesy and unrealistic but that's what you liked about them. It was fiction after all, but the hint of whimsical storylines and once-in-a-blue-moon situations made them fun. It was a Sunday late afternoon and you were over at Tsukishima's place, chilling on the sofa playing video games. You often brought your videos games over along with your console so that the two of you had several had more variety. Currently you were playing Smash Bros, being utterly demolished as you were trying out random champions.
"Hey whoa! Why're you so violent! Let me breathe you hoe!"
"No one said you had to play characters you didn't know, so whose fault is it?"
"Yours you fat shit, you bashed my skull in when I was trying to figure out my abilities. And I wasn't even hitting you!"
"Sucks to suck, lil' bean."
You grunted at his cutesy nickname he used for you, focusing on attempting to knock his character off the platform. You were missing miserably and losing even more miserably. There was still about a minute left of the round when a familiar sound pinged from your phone. You gasped sharply and paused the game, picking up your phone hurriedly and unlocking your phone. Tsukishima set his controller down expectantly, staring at your abrupt movements.
"Something up?"
"I'm playing Mystic Messenger and a new chatroom just opened up."
"Didn't you finish the game a while ago?"
"Yeah well there's multiple routes with multiple people! I'm tryna unlock them all ya know?"
"..."
"I'm on day seven, I can't afford to miss any chatrooms...Dohhh he's so wholesome it melts my heart."
Tsukishima watched as you inwardly squealed at a message the 2D male sent you, he didn't get what was so important about the game. He tried to get your attention off of your phone and back onto the game, "If you don't get off your phone I'm just gonna start the game when you're not looking." You absentmindedly nodded, "Sure, I was losing badly anyway. Not like I can catch up to you." Okay, so his plan failed. Maybe he should take the phone away from you physically. He inched towards you, leaning over on his hand as he stretched his hand out towards your phone.
You swatted it away easily without even looking away from the screen.
Seems like playing otome games gave you heightened senses. Who would've thought.
"Nice try Tsukki, just lemme finish this real quick. Two minutes, promise."
The two of you sat in silence, the only thing making noise where the sound effects coming from your game. After a painstakingly long minute, you finally placed your phone down beside you and picked up the controller again. "Alright, I'm ready. Let's start," you looked at him expectantly. He didn't move, eyes still focusing stoically on you. You grimaced, "Something wrong?"
He ends of his mouth twitched downwards.
"Don't you think it's weird that you still play otome games when you already have a boyfriend?"
"I mean-"
"What's so good about them anyway?"
You could tell that he was starting to feel a little insecure, he was likely thinking about the things he does wrong in the relationship. Your heart broke a little and you crawled closer to him and gave him a big tight hug. "I'm sorry if I upset you, you're more than enough," you promised him, rubbing gentle circles on his back. He reluctantly placed his arms around yours and rested his chin on the crook of your neck.
"Mmm."
"If it makes you feel better, I'll stop playing otome games. Promise."
"Good."
