"Garrick?" asked Austin, flabbergasted. "As in the guy who threatened us at the tracks, who is the reason that Kyle is dead, and who your ex girlfriend is dating?"

"Was dating," I corrected him.

"What?" Austin asked me with scrunched eyebrows.

"B isn't dating him anymore. She stopped by my house yesterday night and told me herself."

"Considering you're calling her 'B', I'm assuming things went well?" Dave asked me.

"Wait, your ex girlfriend stopped by your house yesterday?" Austin asked. "Does Ver know this? Xav, I love you man, but if you even think about cheating on my best friend-"

"Cut it out!" I said with a scowl. "You know I would never do that. Besides, considering everything that is happening, Beatrice coming back should be the least of our worries."

"He's right," said a voice from behind us. I turned in my seat to see Roy walking towards us.

"What are you doing here?" I asked him.

"Dave called me," he said as he shrugged his shoulders and sat on an empty chair. "Said he needed me to hear this too considering its about you and Ver both."

"Is the entire party here or are you going to make me wait more to tell me about how my parents died?" I asked impatiently.

"Wait, what?" Roy asked, wide eyed.

"Patience," Dave said as he looked at his nephew. He then turned his attention to me and said, "You are going to have to let me finish before reacting, understood?"

"Just get on with it," I said as I rolled my eyes.

"I met Charlie when he was about your age. A twenty year old kid who turned to racing for kicks."

"I'm sorry did you say 'racing'?" I asked, completely shocked. "My dad was a racer?"

"He was one of the best we had. A born racer," Dave said stoically. "Sorry, kid, but your racing talent isn't all hard work. It's in your blood."

"That makes so much sense," said Roy as realisation dawned on his face. "No wonder Kells was able to maneuver your Gallardo so well when that truck was about to hit you after your football game. That too without any practice."

"I knew it," David said. "Asking for you kids to not interrupt wasn't going to do any good any way."

"I'm sorry if I'm being a brat by asking too many questions about my parents' death, Dave," I said sarcastically. I had no idea about why was he being so indifferent by all of this but I decided to keep quiet about it for now.

"So Mr. Anderson was a racer," Austin said, motioning for David to continue.

"We were the best of friends. Just like you and Roy here," he said, gesturing to Roy and I. "The only thing Charlie was particular about was ensuring that no one knew his real name. His reason was simple. One day he would have a family and when it would be time for him to leave the racing world, he'd do it without too much trouble. It was a child's dream, but he didn't know it then. Leaving wasn't going to be so easy. Anyway, so keeping his plan in mind, he called himself Jonathan Lawrence."

"Jonathan Lawrence was my dad?!"
After spending so many years with the people of the tracks, I had heard quite a lot of stories of some of the best racers time had seen and Jonathan Lawrence had always been at the top of that list. His skill and style were said to be unmatched and ironically so, many had often compared me to him. No one had a photo of him but I always found myself being very curious about who this man was.
