We've all had that moment in life when we've come face to face with the person we all liked once upon a time and thought - 'Why the hell did I like this douche?'.
Looking at Ryan Richardson for the second time in one week evoked those feelings and thoughts in me. Now that I have Xavier to compare him to, I cant understand what did I see in him in the first place.

"I must say guys," Ryan said with a humourless chuckle. "Fuck off is a really warm welcome."

"You're shitty self doesn't deserve any sort of welcome, you jerk," I said as I narrowed my eyes at him.

"Who invited you here in the first place?" Xavier asked him skeptically as his grip on my waist tightened.

"The Carter's did," he said with a shrug.

"No we didn't," I heard Jerko's voice from behind me as he came and stood beside me. "So get your sorry ass out of here."

"You do realise you aren't the only person whose last name is Carter, right?" Ryan said as he rolled his eyes and started searching for someone. "Ah, Mr. and Mrs. Carter! Would you please come here and tell your dear son and his friends that I was in fact invited here," he said as Jerko's parents walked towards us with downcast expressions.

"Mom? Dad?" Jerko asked them, shocked. "You invited this son of a bitch?"

"Language, Austin," his father warned him.

"Don't lecture me about language when you two called this asshat despite everything he's done to Ver!"

"We didn't have a choice, son," his mom grumbled. "The Richardson's are planning to do a business deal with our company. They're interested in taking over our company after a few years."

"And you made this decision without me?!" Jerko asked, shocked.

"It's not a decision, son," Mr. Carter said. "We're only talking right now. Besides, you look barely interested in taking over after me and I need to know my company wont go down in crumbles after I retire."

"So that is what this is about?! If I wasn't interested would I have taken all those business management courses? If I wasn't interested, would I have accompanied you to all those meetings?!"

"You're too taken up with your football, son. You aren't focused," his father said.

"I'm in high school, for God's sake! Of course you think I'm not focussed right now! But this isn't about me, is it? This is about you two. You think I wont do a good job once you retire, don't you?"

His parents' guilty expression spoke for them.
"Austin," his mom started. "Its just that you keep partying every chance you get and-"

"Really, mom?" he asked with narrowed eyes. "Well, if it isn't clear to you yet, let me make it. I want to do this when I'm old enough to and I'm trying really hard to impress the two of you. You want me to work harder? Fine, I will. I'll make our company the biggest it can get but I'll be damned before I let you two sell off my company to the guy who hurt my best friend while he acts like a douche on my property. You want more involvement, fine. But I am not giving this asshole my company neither am I letting him stay here. I want you out, Ryan. Right now. And that's the last I want to hear about any of this."

I hadn't seen ever seen him this upset or determined. It seemed that Ryan heard the seriousness in his voice too since he decided to back off for now. A small crowd had gathered to hear the commotion we caused and Ryan knew better than to try something right now which was why all he did, was lean in closer to us and sneered, "I'll see all of you at school. Lets see if your arrogance holds on my turf."
