"You're doing it again."
"Doing what again?"
"Talking to yourself when you don't know what to do," Leo said with a chuckle.
I gave him a penetrating glare as I focussed my attention back to the problem on my hands.
"I mean, the red roses are beautiful but they scream too 'lovey dovey' to me. Then we have the white lilies that are just plain gorgeous but they don't have too many of those to make a bouquet. The sunflowers are Gramps' favourite flowers but then Grams loves those green flowers that have a thousand pollen grains on them. And mom and dad absolutely LOVE the orchids."It had been five years since I was back in my home town again. Back in Minnesota.
To be honest, I had complete mixed feelings about being back. On one side, the streets I had grown up seeing were a little fuzzy in my memory since I had gotten so used to seeing the bustling crowds of London. On the other, home never felt more.....homely.The fragrance from Mrs. Gaud's bakery on sixth and main still distracted me to no bounds as I thought back to the way she always made my special chocolate cake. In fact, the next stop I was going to after getting a bouquet for all of them was the bakery to get a cake too.
"All of this wouldn't have been necessary if you would've just told them that you were coming back home," said Leo with a sigh.
"Are you out of your mind?!" I yelled, exasperated. "If they would've known that I was back in town, one of two things would've happened. One. They would've either given me an over the top welcome or Two. Gramps would have convinced them to never let me step foot in my house again."
"Surely you're just being dramatic. I mean, your grandfather cant be that-"
"Oh he most definitely is whatever you were going to say," I said, cutting him off. "I'm going home with the hopes of all of them being in a good mood today since its mom and dad's anniversary. Let's hope the cake and flowers help me too."
"They would only be able to help you if you choose them first, Ver," he said as he rolled his eyes. "We've been at this flower shop for half an hour and you still haven't decided what flowers are we finally going with."
"But there are just so many options, I don't know what to do!" I whined.
"Why don't you just mix all of them?" said a voice from behind me.
I turned around, confused, only to see a small kid with a Spiderman mask on his face. He looked no older than about 4 yrs as I saw his blue eyes look at me.
"I'm sorry, did you say something kiddo?" I asked him with a smile on my face as I bent down to his height.
"Just mix all of them if you cant choose," he said, his voice muffled with the mask that covered his entire face.
"How long have you been standing there buddy?" Leo asked him, amused.
"I don't know," he said with a shrug. "I was playing hide and seek with my nanny when I saw this pretty lady talk to herself so I stopped. My daddy always tells me to help pretty ladies in need."
Leo started laughing at that. "That's some really great advice there bro."
"Yeah my dad rocks!" the kid said as he punched his hand in the air.
"Then who teaches you all the serious stuff?" I asked him, intrigued.
"Mommy and Uncle Z," he said immediately.
"Uncle Z?"
"Yup! My dad's best friend!"
"Well, I'd love to know more but I am kinda running late," I said after that. "You think I should just mix all of these flowers together?"
