"Finally," said a voice as we walked towards him. His voice was gruff and he had a cigarette in his mouth. The t-shirt he wore did a poor job of covering the tons on tattoos on his arms and his face structure looked similar to Roy's but was a little older.

"Dave," said Xav in acknowledgement as we walked towards him.
"This the lot you keep talkin' 'bout?" David asked.
"Yeah," replied Roy. "That's Jen, Austin, Simon, Jamie and Ver. And you already know Sky and Kells," he said as he gestured towards us.

"You're that Veronica chick?" he asked me.

"Yeah," I said skeptically.

David then pointed at me with narrowed eyes and said, "You're trouble."

"David!" Kelsi exclaimed, shocked as I saw Xavier rub his face as if tired.

"Excuse me?" I asked defensively.

"You need to stay away from my boy before you trouble him too much," David continued. "The poor kid already gets exhausted with all the things he has going on anyway and now, only for you, he spends all his time searching for stuff about-"

"That's enough," Xavier cut in as he looked at David with a pointed glare.
What was David talking about? What is Xavier doing for me?

"I'm not having this conversation again, Dave. Especially not now," Xavier said sternly. "I make my own decisions and we'll leave it at that. Your nephew has a race in some time and I think you should go see the bets."

"But Xav, she needs to know-"

"NOW, David."
Xav didn't leave any room for argument as David finally gave in and went ahead with Roy to oversee the bets after we wished him luck.

"That guy was sweet," Jen said sarcastically as she rolled her eyes.

"David doesn't just say stuff like that if there isn't a reason, Jen," Sky said knowingly. "What aren't you telling us Xav? What was David talking about?"

"Its nothing you guys should be concerned about," Xav said, shrugging it off.

"But he said you're doing it for me," I said as I crossed my hands over my chest. "So it does concern me."

"Let it go, Veronica."

I huffed as I turned away from him, deciding to ignore him instead, and focus on the race. I heard him sigh in defeat but he didn't say anything after that.

Roy's race started soon. The Tanner guy he was going up against was a little bit sloppy in his driving and Roy took the advantage of that by speeding off in his Volkswagen GTI. It was the first race I was ever witnessing and boy was it great. Both the cars speeding off on the tracks and the smell and sound of hot tires spreading everywhere.

It was only a one lap race but the tracks were large enough for the boys to take about five whole minutes to cover it up, despite the speeding. Halfway across the tracks there was a blindspot where the spectators couldn't really see the two cars. It would've been a different case if the race was neck and neck but Roy was leading by a great difference. After about four minutes, Roy with still in his massive lead, approached the final turn.

He didn't slow down though, and decided to take the turn at the same speed he was driving at when he was on the straight road. I turned to look at Xav to see that he had an impassive expression on his face which I couldn't really read. Dave had walked up to us by that time and said as he approached Xav with gritted teeth, "That boy never listens."

I honestly don't know why were they stressing so much since ultimately, Roy took the turn without crashing into anything and crossed the finish line.

"Woohoo!" I hooted as I ran to congratulate him with the others in tow.
As soon as Roy got out of the car and removed his helmet, I gave him a big hug amidst all the other strangers congratulating him.
"Congratulations!!!! You were great!"
