After spending many hours together in bed, cuddling, talking, kissing, you and Newt eventually get hungry enough to venture out of your own little world into the kitchen to find something to eat. Holding hands and giggling as you enter the kitchen, you find Newt's mum, Claire, sitting at the table, wearing a pair of reading glasses and looking through a bunch of papers in front of her. She doesn't even glance up at the two of you when you enter, but that doesn't stop the blush creeping up on your face. You had just spent the morning in bed with her son.

"Morning," Newt says cheerfully before opening the fridge and leaning against the door lazily, and you hear his mum sigh before pulling all of her papers into a neat stack.

"I need to talk to the two of you, actually," and there is only business in the kind woman's voice, which makes you nervous. She's never been anything but welcoming and loving to you, so something must be wrong.

"I received a phone call this morning concerning your living situation, (Y/n). Now, as you both know I've applied to foster (Y/n) but it appears after looking through the written testimonies both of you submitted to the court the judge has denied my application to become your foster parent."

Your head is spinning and you nearly feel sick. You were finally comfortable, and now everything is being ripped away from under you.

"They can't do that!" Newt yells, but his mum doesn't flinch, keeping her face calm.

"They can, actually. Your testimonies made it quite clear that the two of you are involved and it's against the rules for foster siblings to date each other."

"Don't say that!" Newt's temper seems to be getting out of control, "You have to tell them she can stay here, you have to fight for her! Who knows what the foster system will be like, or where she'll end up. I can't keep her safe if she's not here. I promised she'd be safe here!" His voice cracks on the last word, and that small detail is enough to make the tears that were threaten to spill out, but you stay silent, watching your fate being decided, once again out of your hands.

Newt's mum calmly looks Newt in the eyes, his fists clenched and his breathing fast, "I will not request that (Y/n) be allowed to stay here, I myself don't think it's appropriate with the two of you sneaking around at night."

"It was one night!" Newt protests.

"It was not."

"Don't do this. Please." You see the tears begin to well up in his eyes as he realized what you already knew.

"It's for the best, Newt." Claire delivered the words so calmly and evenly that any shred of hope you had shattered, and the tears began to spill out of your eyes so fast you couldn't control them. You try to wipe them away but they keep coming almost as fast. Newt is still staring at his mum, as though he could change her mind purely from the pain in his eyes. You couldn't bear it anymore, you slip up the stairs quietly to sob in the privacy of your room.

Only about twenty minutes passed before you heard a light tap on the door. You haven't been able to stop crying for a while, so you were sure you looked like a mess, but you opened the door anyways to find Newt, his eyes red as well.

"Would you like to go for a drive?" He asks with a small smile, and you nod, happy to get out for a minute with Newt.

You drive with the windows down, the music playing loudly, and Newt's hand on your leg, tracing circles with his thumb. Eventually he pulls into a parking lot next to a park with a large hill on the other side.

"Join me for a stroll, M'lady?" He says with a grin, the drive seemed to help him return to himself and you couldn't help but giggle.

"Well of course, Sir." Newt comes around to your side to help you out of his car and grabs your hand and leads you through the park and up the hill. Your stomach is grumbling, and you were wishing you guys had stopped for food on the way as your earlier plans to eat got interrupted.
