You're attempting to focus on a movie, but waiting to see what the police do and snuggling next to Newt on the couch, you don't notice much of what happens on the screen. You jump at any small noise or movement, and let's face it, you're worried.

Newt tries to keep you calm, but you're just nervous and there's not much he can do. Every couple minutes or so, he leans over and kisses you, and that probably helps but you can't really tell. Eventually Newt goes up to get popcorn, startling you, and again when comes back in you jump again. This is really getting pathetic, you sigh to yourself.

"Hey, (y/n)? It's going to be alright. You're going to be fine," Newt says softly, kissing you again, and pulling you as close as he can. And you finally manage to forget what's happening as you snuggle next to Newt, you slowly fall asleep, safe and happy.

..................................

When you wake up you're curled up in a ball on the couch, and Newt is no longer there, but you're not quite ready to move yet, so you pull the blanket tighter around you and close your eyes again, and you slowly doze for a while.

Then the doorbell rings.

You don't move. You don't want to move. You desperately want to know what is going on, but you're not sure you're ready, and when you are actually warm and happy, moving doesn't place first on your list. So you just sit, waiting and listening.

The door opens and Newt comes in, and out of instinct you pretend to be asleep. He sits down next to you and plays with your hair, so you open your eyes and look up at him. He seemed worried.

"Hey..." You say sleepily.

"Hey (y/n), I have some news," He says slowly, so you sit up and lean against his shoulder, eyes closed, bracing for whatever follows.

"What is it?" You practically whisper, not sure you even want to know, but the curiosity is killing you.

"So the officers went to the house to find your father, and no one was there. The house was empty, except for your room, but there wasn't much in there anyway. No one knows where he went or what happened to him, but they're going to find him, and you're going to be just fine." Newt says, kissing the top of your head and squeezing you, holding you close.

You don't say anything. You can't. You're scared. Before now it was always home that was dangerous, and as long as you weren't there, nothing would happen to you, but now he could be anywhere.

Maybe he's coming for you. Maybe he's so mad at you that you called the police that he's going to find you and make you pay for it. And now you're terrified.

But then again, maybe he's done with you. The police know the story and on your side, maybe he'll be too scared of the police finding him to bother with finding you. It just depends.

"I'm scared," you whisper, fighting back the tears, snuggled up to Newt.

"Hey, hey, it's going to be okay. They're going to find him soon, and you'll be safe," Newt says softly.

You pull yourself together slightly, and sit up, wiping away your tears quickly, hoping Newt doesn't worry. "I'm okay. I'll be okay." You say, desperately trying to keep it together.

"You don't always have to be this strong you know. I'm here to be strong for you. And if you're not okay, that's okay. I'm here." Newt says, pulling you close to him again, holding you tight as you cry once more.
