You've settled in nicely into Newt's home and it been about a week since you've set foot in your house with your father. And you can tell Newt's mom is getting suspicious. Of course she's too nice of a person to ask you to leave or to be particularly bothered by your presence, so she doesn't say anything. You can tell.

But you're in heaven. You're sleeping good, you're eating good, you feel safe. It's more than you could ever want. And Newt.

You're lying in your bed one night when you ear a soft tap on the door. It startles you slightly cause I'm the past noises in the night were usually things to be feared, but this is to gentle to be something scary.

The door slowly swings open, and Newt slips in quietly.

"I hope I'm not waking you...." He says shyly, "but I couldn't stop thinking about you," you can hear the sheepishness in his voice, and you assume he's blushing, even though it's dark and you can't tell. Your face breaks into a huge smile.

You sit up in bed and stretch out your arms like a child, and he obeys, coming forward and sitting next to you, hugging you and holding you close.

"I'm worried about you," he whispers in the dark.

"I'm safe, don't worry," you say, holding him close.

"I have bad news...." Newt says, and your heart drops. You're finally getting kicked out. You shouldn't have stayed so long anyways, this isn't your home. This isn't your family.

"We're going on a small family vacation next week, and I begged my mom, but she says we can't bring you. I'll be gone for about a week and a half and I'm worried you won't be safe. I know you won't be safe around that monster."

"I'll be okay," you say, unconvinced yourself.

"You don't sound convinced...." Newt says, seeing through your act.

"Well it's gonna be okay. I'll survive. I lived with him for most of my life," Newt squeezes you tighter at the mention of your dad. He really seems sad at the thought of leaving you.

"I know. And I hate it. I just wish I was there for you all that time. I just think of how much you were hurt all those years...." He breaks off, kissing the top of your head, holding you close.

"I'll be okay. I'll be waiting for you when you get back." You say, on the verge of tears at the thought of having to go anywhere near your father. But you don't really have much of a choice.

"I'm gonna miss you (y/n)," Newt says.

"I'm gonna miss you too," you say, burying your head in his chest. Never wanting to come out.

...........

It's the day Newt has to go, and you have to go back to your house. And you can tell that both you and Newt are severely dreading this separation. Newt even bought you a cell phone so you can call him. So maybe it won't be too bad you try to lie to yourself. And you fail miserably. This is your father, of course it's gonna be bad.

"Call me if there's a single bruise," newt whispers into your ear as he hugs you goodbye, dropping you off in front of your house. You smile and nod.

"Of course," you say, knowing full well you won't call him over a bruise. A bruise you can handle. The knife you cannot.

"Goodbye (y/n)," he says, squeezing you tightly one last time. And you prepare to walk into the house, dreading every step towards your father.
