2 YEARS LATER

Lena's POV

I am sitting in my office twiddling with my engagement ring as I glance over paperwork.

I was about to text Kara when my intercom buzzed and my assistant Jess's voice came through the phone as she says "Dr. Luthor?"

I click the response button and say "Yes?"

I quickly get a response as she says "There is a call for you on line two from a Lily Springer?"

A smile forms on my face thinking about the now college sophomore. 

Lily is the girl on the tour two years ago who found out my identity. We kept in contact and she would ask questions about anything I published or whatever I was working on over the years.

She is now a pre-med student at the local university. She has been working her ass off and I am proud of her.

I shake off my thoughts as I respond to my receptionist by saying "Thanks Jess send it through"

I let go of the button and a second later my phone rings and I quickly pick it up and say "Hey Lily"

I can practically hear the smile in her voice as she says "Hey Doc," 

She started calling me Doc about a year ago. 

I move my paperwork away from me slightly and say "What can I do for you kiddo?"

I hear her clear her throat and I can almost feel the nervousness radiating off of her as she says "Umm, would it be too much to ask for a favor? It is kinda a big one"

My smile turns into a concerned frown as I say "What's up?"

I walk out of the elevator and smile as I see my fíance standing at the front desk talking with the nurses and receptionists with our puppy Gus sits at her side sitting patiently.

I quickly walk up to her and hug her from behind as I kiss her cheek.

She turns her head slightly to kiss me as she says "Hey baby. How is work going today?" with a wide smile on her face.

I smile back and say "Good. I have been buried in paperwork all day but I have a consult for a possible pro bono case with our tinny medical nerd friend so I am excited for that" 

I bent down and give our yellow lab puppy some pets and ear scratches as I use a baby voice and say "Hey baby boy! How's my favorite little puppy dog" He barks happily and licks my face.

After another 20 seconds off pets, I stand and kiss Lena again before I say "Would you mind grabbing us some lunch, I haven't had time to eat and I am absolutely starved. I can bring Gus along as emotional support for the customer."

We got Gus certified as a real emotional support animal almost as soon as he had all his shots which was pretty quickly after we adopted him. That was about 4 weeks ago.

Now Gus spends every day either in my office, the pediatric ward of the hospital, or at the Cafe with Kara.

Kara's cafe became really popular really quickly. 

She got three more locations on top of the one down the street from the hospital. One in a city about 3 miles away that Alex runs, another on the other side of town that her best friend Nia runs, and finally one inside of my hospital.

I am incredibly proud of her hard work and it paid off for her.

Kara waves goodbye to the nurses and we walk to the elevator. Kara takes an elevator down to the cafeteria and I go up to the floor I need to be on.
