That's my sister

AN: I am so tired but I go back to college very soon and I am excited cause it's been a while since I was back at school because of medical reasons. As for this chapter Lena and Alex are long-standing rivals when Kara gets adopted as an angsty 16-year-old angry at everyone. Lena decides to make it her mission to date and befriend her rival's sister. (This is inspired by Delilah Green Doesn't Care)

Lena's POV

I walk into class and plop down in my normal seat at the back of the class. It's a chem class I could teach in my sleep and the teacher knows this so she doesn't care when I fall asleep on the days when I am exhausted. 

The only thing that would make me like this class more is if Alex fucking Danvers wasn't in it. 

The only person who is giving me a run for valedictorian and a smartass who drives me crazy. We have been competing for top grades since I moved from Ireland. 

I am a bit shocked that she wasn't already in class reviewing her notes or something. 

I glance at the clock and see that the first bell is going to ring in a minute. She has never not been into class by this time what's going on...

I spoke too soon... Alex walks in with a tall blonde following behind her. 

I see Alex start to say something but the blonde is already walking past her and to the back row where she plops down in the seat next to me and immediately rests her head on her folded arms. 

I hear Alex sigh and walk back and take the seat in front of the blonde instead of her normal seat at the front of the class. 

I raise my eyebrow and start to say "Good-"

"Don't start Luthor." 

"What? I was trying to be nice and say good morning. What crawled up your ass and died?" 

"Fuck off L-" Her voice rising

"Alex." The blonde's voice immediately shut her up. 

 "Sorry Kar," she says in a much quieter tone. 

My eyebrows furrow and Alex tosses "Kar" a pair of what look to be Bluetooth headphones that Kara immediately puts in before resuming her position of her head resting on the desk.

"Who's she?" I ask Alex after a minute. 

"Kara. My adoptive sister" 

"Oh?" 

"Look Lena I am really not in the mood to bicker I haven't slept in a week and all I want to do is enjoy my favorite class. So as politely as possible fuck off" 

I decided for once to not prod at her anymore but Kara caught my eye throughout the rest of class. I really hadn't met anyone else who was adopted and was curious to know how she was doing. Unfortunately, my perfect memory allowed me to remember every terrifying sad detail of my adoption as a 4-year-old into the Luthor family.

I am sat outside during lunch enjoying the peaceful quietness of being a loner sat by myself when Alex comes storming up to me and says "Have you seen Kara?" 

"What?" 

"Kara? The blonde from class? My adoptive sister. Where is she?" 

"No idea but she's cute give her my number and I can show her around town," I say adding a wink just to piss Alex off

"If you lay a single finger on my sister I will rip your eyes out and feed them to you" 

"She is her own person she can make decisions for herself." 

"She isn't interested in women." 

"Ehh she might not even know yet so don't speak for her." 

"Doesn't matter 'cause you will never ever date her," Alex says sending me a glare that could kill me before storming off. 

"Wow, thanks I have been trying to get away from her all day," Kara says as she drops from the tree I am leaning against as I nearly jump out of my shoes. 

Kara sits down next to me and sees my lunch "Dang I haven't had a chance to eat and I am starving. The food in the cafeteria doesn't look edible." 

"It's not and definitely not worth risking whether it is a week you will get food poisoning or not." I reach into my bag and toss her an apple and some chips I wasn't gonna eat until my ride home. "Here eat that" 

She immediately starts happily munching and I decide to get some blackmail on Alex for future use. "Why are you hiding from Alex?" 

Kara swallows and says "She is well-meaning but she is as neurotic as her mom and the both treat me like I am gonna break if I step wrong which is so far from the truth. I mean their being overbearing is just stressing me out you know? I mean they are trying to replace the family I lost which yah I got but also not what I need or want and I have tried to tell them but they won't listen. Sorry to dump all that on you" 

"No, it's all good when I was adopted my family did the opposite. They treated me like shit cause I was an outsider. And I was only 4 so it wasn't like I could advocate for myself. So I can't relate exactly but I get it still." Kara gives me a smile that lights up her entire face but it disappears quickly and I recognize the look "How long ago did you lose your parents?"  

"7 months 13 days." She says sadly I nod my understanding knowing no apology or condolence really helps in this situation. "Eliza and Alex treat me like I shouldn't be sad sometimes and that's what makes it worse. It seems like I wrecked their life and they just want it back to normal and I would rather just leave than continue making their lives so difficult. Wow I am so sorry I don't know you and I am dumping on you" 

"Lena is my name. And seriously don't worry about it. I wish I had someone to talk to about this who understood what I went through when I was younger so I am definitely okay with talking this through any time. And I promise that you aren't negatively affecting their life. I mean I barely tolerate Alex on a good day so I hate to say this but she just wants what's best for you and she doesn't show it in the best way but it's just her weird way of showing it. If she didn't want you there she would definitely vocalize it. Trust me she tells me to fuck off every other class. It doesn't mean what they are doing is right it just means they care." 

"KARA!" We hear Alex call from a distance. 

I see Kara flinch from the noise, "Thanks for the conversation. I will talk to you soon." She gives me that same amazing smile before placing a light kiss on my cheek and runs away from where Alex's voice is coming from.
