It's Raining, It's Pouring

Lucifer sat as his piano. He touched the keys but couldn't seem to hear them. He felt empty. He sipped his whiskey, the burn of the alcohol grounding him, the gold brown liquid now his only friend and even that was starting to lose it's appeal. Chloe had seen his face and left the country. He hadn't meant to show her, but he'd hoped with everything in him that she would miraculously be okay. Of course she was scared of him. He was terrifying. Lucifer knew that, but after everything they'd gone through, every time he'd tried to tell her, every time she'd insisted she didn't see him like that and now everything he feared had come true. She saw all of him and because of that, she hated him. Chloe was gone.

Lucifer pushed down the sharp shards of broken hope and began to play. He didn't know where the words or the notes had come from, but they felt as if they were pouring from his heart. The rain set the beat as his fingers hit the keys.

It's raining, it's pouring
My eyes, oh they're stormy
And I don't wanna leave this bed
It's raining, it's pouring
It's four in the morning
And I don't wanna cry
But I need you here
'Cause I'm a mess

Lucifer remembered the day they met. She'd been younger then, fresh faced, but she'd only got more beautiful as the days passed. She'd thought he was a douchey club owner who only cared about himself and his money and she wanted nothing to do with him, but he eventually wore her down. The first time he'd seen her smile, like really smile, his heart had melted and he'd reveled in the feeling. The first new feeling he'd had since the Silver City.

Blue skies turn to grey now
My eyes turn to rainclouds
And I'm tired
It's been three weeks since you left me
So tonight I'm feeling empty
I don't know why

He knew why she left, or the logical side of him did. His heart on the other hand, his feelings, they screamed for her return.

We were nine clouds high, then we fall down
Nowhere to hide, caught in the fallout
And I can't lie, wish you'd call now
For one more time, one more time

It hurt, hurting his detective. It'd been the last thing he ever wanted to do. He didn't deserve her. Yet, he wanted her back. He would've done anything for things to go back to the way they were. He sang the first lines again.

It's raining, it's pouring
My eyes, oh they're stormy
And I don't wanna leave this bed
It's raining, it's pouring
It's four in the morning
And I don't wanna cry
But I need you here
'Cause I'm a mess

He really was a mess. He found he no longer cared if his suit was mussed or his hair was uncombed. He only showered because the hot water grounded him, much like the sting of his whiskey. He thought of the prom he'd thrown her. The look on her face when he asked her to dance.

Flashback to your apartment
Slow dancing in the darkness
We were fine
I knew then, we should've seen this
And we tried but somehow we missed
All the signs

He'd been so stupid, not realizing what he'd had. Their friendship, their partnership, it was so much more than a work thing, but for some reason, he'd refused to see it. He sang the pre chorus and without pause, slipped into the chorus.

Now we're nine clouds high, then we fall down
Nowhere to hide, caught in the fallout
And I can't lie, wish you'd call now
For one more time, one more time

it's raining, it's pouring
My eyes, oh they're stormy
And I don't wanna leave this bed
It's raining, it's pouring
It's four in the morning
And I don't wanna cry
But I need you here
'Cause I'm a mess
