a/n So this is going to be a little different, but I analyzed Lucifer and Chloe using my phycology text book and the internet for a class I am taking and thought I'd put the casual versions here in case you guys care about it. Enjoy, and we'll be back to fluff and stuff soon. :)

Lucifer Morningstar is the protagonist or arguably the co-star of the show Lucifer. He is the devil, ruler of hell, son of god, etc. When the show begins, Lucifer has been on earth for five years and he gives humans favors in exchange for a blank check, if you will, a favor for a favor. I think he does this because he needs to feel like he has a purpose. WHen he was kicked out of heaven, he was given a job as king of hell. He spent millenia managing hell, then came to earth and no one needed him anymore.

I think that's also the reason he joined the LA Police Department in part. He was introduced to the job when one of the people he considered a friend was killed in front of him and he was questioned by the police, specifically Detective Chloe Decker. As a punisher and someone who cared about the murder victem, he decided to solve the murder of his friend. He found when working with the detective that his so-called mojo, his ability to make people tell him their deepest desires, did not work on her. This upset him. I believe it made him feel he had no control over her and that scared him.

I think Lucifer was so used to being in control of everyone around him with his favors and before that, as king of hell, that not being able to control Chloe scared him a bit. It seems that the last time he wasn't in control he was thrown out of heaven for starting a rebellion. I think his daddy issues also stem from that. His control issues, I mean. His father, God, was in control when the worst things happened to him. He gets so angry every time he finds out something is a manipulation from his father. For example, when he found out that his detective was a miracle, put in his path by God, he almost killed his brother, falsely assuming that he was behind it. That's also an instance when Lucifer's anger issues came to light.

Lucifer is angry at least once per episode. He gets angry at the murderers he finds through the LAPD. He does his eye flash and traumatizes his victims or psychologically tortures them with the fear that hell is real and they are going there. Every once in a while he hurts someone physically. Like once he threw a man through a glass window, but Chloe was there to calm him down. She is his weak spot throughout the show. The one time he seriously hurt someone as a punishment, the detective wasn't there to remind him that he is good. The only human he ever killed, was to protect Chloe. That human was also Cain from Cain and Abel in the bible, and he had shot her, clipped the top of her bulletproof vest and threatened to kill her otherwise.

Lucifer doesn't believe he is good, but the detective does. Because of that he trusts her. I think he thinks he's bad so he punishes himself subconsciously by self sabatoshing. Every time something starts to go well for him he does something rash to ruin it all. He kissed the detective, started a relationship with her, then he went to vegas and married an 'exotic dancer'.

Overall, I think the reason Lucifer has all these underlying issues and why he's denying that he has these issues is because his father abandoned him. Threw him out of his home and damned him to eternity in hell, being blamed for all the bad, all the evil that ever occurred and will ever occur. If that hadn't happened, all these bad things wouldn't have happened to him, but I also think a lot of good came from it.

____

Chloe Decker or The Detective, is a homicide detective with the LAPD. She is an only child who started her career following in the footsteps of her mother and trying to become an actress. Unfortunately, just before her first movie was released her father was killed. She was 19 at this time and made it big in the press for punching a paparazzo who crashed her fathers funeral. After this she quit acting and ended up working for the LAPD. She married a fellow officer and was promoted to detective not long after. She had a child with this officer, Detective Daniel Espinoza. When the show begins she and him are separated and in the beginning of season two they get officially divorced. Throughout all of this, she appears to be neurotypical and mentally stable.

When the show started, she also had just begun working with Lucifer, who manipulated his way onto the force and became a civilian consultant. We find out after her mother comes to visit that she may have some childhood trauma. She says that she felt she always had to be the parent for her mother which indicates emotional neglect. Chloe also says that her mother forced her into acting as a child and because of that, she didn't get to go to middle or highschool like a 'normal' teenager. We find out that because of that she feels like an outcast. Lucifer tries to help her with the feelings of loss and alienation by throwing her a prom. It appears she dealt with those issues after that, as they are never brought up again.

Trauma seems to be a common theme with this character. She seems to put everyone else's needs above her own, over apologize at times, take the blame for things that aren't her fault, and avoid dealing with her own issues by throwing herself into work. These are signs of emotional neglect, whether it was intentional or not.

While I stick by her being neurotypical, I also think her trauma affects her a lot. Specifically at work. She sees bodies and solves murders every day. I think because she didn't deal with her childhood trauma, she also didn't deal with her trauma regarding work. She has a fear of death, which she confirms in the pilot, then again towards the end of season 3. That doesn't stop her from continuously risking her life for the sake of others though.

I believe that Chloe also may have a fear of abandonment that developed in season 4, when Lucifer went back to Hell. She avoids dealing with it, a common occurrence with her character, but the things she says and the way she acts with not Lucifer, but also their friends, specifically Mazikeen, shows that she is very afraid they will leave her. We see a glimpse of this in the final episode of s5a, (the end of the show until May 28) when she tells Lucifer that she is afraid that he hasn't said he loves her back because he doesn't love her or is planning on leaving her again. It seems Lucifer also has a fear of abandonment, so hopefully they work together to resolve their issues together instead of letting their insecurities negatively affect their relationship, as it took the five years to finally start dating.

Chloe Decker is an amazing charter. She is the heart of the show and even though the things she does backfire sometimes, she believes she is doing the right thing. Maybe Lucifer can get her to go to therapy to resolve her trauma in season 5b or the final season (that's s6, not release date yet). Either way, she is a really interesting character with a lot of positive traits. It's not often that I find a neurotypical character that's interesting. She is definitely one of a kind.

a/n So there's that. I have a one shot prepared for later today so if you hated this, maybe you'll like that. If you want more of this, let me know. I've analyzed almost all of the Lucifer characters.
