No one knew why Takeshima Middle School was so strong.
A rich, private and academically focused elite school on the island on Okinawa filled to the brim with the rich, talented and those of the old founding pedigrees. An international school that was so exclusive and closed to the world yet...
'WHY ISN'T THE BALL FALLING?'
Invincible.
'They're literally a bunch of 5 feet 14 year old kids! Why haven't you idiots won already?'
Phrases the six teens on the court have heard over and over on a daily basis. They were used to it. The insults, the whispering, all the derogative comments spouted in their direction. Every. Damm. Day.
No problem though. You get used to it. Not a big deal. No effect, whatsoever. At least, that's what they tell themselves.
If you looked closely enough, you could see the slightest smirk on the face of a 5'6 pretty blonde or the smallest twitch in the cheek of a 5'7 green-eyed redhead or if you are brave enough, you could endure the stares of the 3 brunettes, all of whom appear to be seething with malice.
XinShan Institute.
Founders of the largest collection of kids with the highest net worth's in the world. With international education institutions and facilities higher than the rest, they are believed to be the generation of the future. No one expected this sort of power from them.
And XinShan Institute just happens to own Takeshima High.
For almost 50 years, the schools belonging to XinShan have surpassed the IQ's and blood of the regular citizens. Bloodlines, talent and heritage. But only in the last 3 years have they made such a change in headlines. From 'Newest Science Prodigy' to the 'Unexpected Powerhouse'.
No one knew how. No one knew why.
Except her.
'CHANCE BALL!'
A small figure dashed forward to pass the ball.
To the setter. That's all I have to do.
A ball spinning at paces beyond the speed at which human eyes can't see headed her way.
Overhand.
The once rapidly spinning ball seemed to have lost the momentum as it floated through the air straight to the palms of the pretty blonde setter.
'Go!'
At this moment, the five remaining players dashed forwards in odd patterns. One delayed jump, one side jump, one back row attack, one line shot, one cross-shot. 'A pipe mixture' the figure laughed quietly to herself as she paused for a heartbeat before leaping into the air, higher than her opponents block, catching a glimpse of their shocked faces as they fell while she rose. She looked up, closing her eyes and internally smiled. She didn't care. I dont need to. Not when I have you.
Thump.
The tiny thump shouldn't have been audible but for the two teams on the court, it was as loud as a lone firework on a silent night. No one saw it coming. 'The setter's dump'.
Tears filled the court but not one person made a noise. As the team turned to each other in shock, the small figure walked over to the bench where the coach was gripping her face so tightly her nail marks were etched into her face.
'WE DID IT!' came a voice coming from the girl in the setter's position in front of the net.
At that moment, the Tokyo stadium erupted in cheers. Everyone was clapping. No words needed to be said as the figure watched her team hug and cry and cry and cry.
The lone figure made eye contact with the pretty blonde setter who was surrounded by her friends. They shared a moments glance before celebrating their win in their own ways.
'No words needed'.
