'...Ah Ba?'
'Hello, who's this?' The voice was in English. 'Never mind I don't care. Tell the old woman that I want to see the goddam will and that Carlos better receive it in his inbox soon or else we will have a problem,'
He hung up. The phone almost slipped out of my hand and I close my eyes, welcoming the same familiar world that I created for myself. The room filled with pillows and the softest duvets.
No, not that one.
I flip through the channels, trying to find the one I needed. After a solid minute or so, I found it. I walked through the doors of the wooden space and as if I summoned it, a crate of volleyballs appeared. I run over to them and immediately, I start hitting them across the room, my thoughts colliding as my migraine heightened.
I felt heat build up and my breathing fastened as I hit more and more serves over. The crate never emptied and after what felt like ages, I was sweating.
WHY??? He only called for the will? He's gonna take legal action? That son of a bitch! No, grandma isn't a bitch. He's just a complete asshole.
I open my eyes to find myself crouched beside a couch, underneath a small table and I steadied my breathing.
Oddly enough, I was most angry at the way that he hadn't changed but that's been the same ever since I was born.
'-i. Li!'
I snapped out of my thoughts and saw Grandma yelling for me from the kitchen. I stand up too fast, bumping my head on the table as I run to the kitchen. 'Yes, Grandma?'
'Fruit's done. Are you okay?'
'Yepp. You got a call by the way,'
There was a moment of silence. 'If it's about the neighbor's cat again, tell Mrs Li that she can go f,-,'
'NO, grandma. It wasn't Mrs Li,' I cut her off with a short fake laugh.
Her eyes narrowed. 'Baby, that laugh wasn't natural. Who called?'
'My throats sore. The airplane food was salty,' I lied casually, shrugging my shoulders trying to be as emotionless as possible.
'Hmm, who called though?'
'Your son,' I answer, trying to ignore the frustration that clouded my body.
'Oh,'
I nod. 'You need to call him back,'
'Hmm sure. Now, let's go eat some fruit,'
I push those painful thoughts to the back of my mind and we head to the kitchen where several plates of fruit sat. Apples on one, oranges on another and grapes, strawberries and lychee on the last. I notice that there isn't any mango so I take a large strawberry instead.
I chewed it and grimaced at the taste of them.
'Is it not sweet?' my Grandma asked.
I shake my head.
'It just tastes like home,'
~Timeskip~
Later that evening, Grandma took me out of my 'bed' that I created on the floor and nagged me to stop making them. Of course, I nodded but I'm obviously not gonna listen. I'm not going to walk up six flights of stairs to just sleep.
She drags me to her car to which I open the back door but she doesn't let me sit there. She makes me sit up front like usual but that's fine because I reclined the seat and brought 2 comforters, a duvet and 3 pillows.
She rolls her eyes at me before motioning to the security to open the gate to which she drives out of. I then fall asleep.
*Soo-ah's POV*
I wonder how Li is doing.
I've been sitting inside a cafe for 6 hours and I just want to swim straight to Guangzhou at this point. I shipped my luggage there and a couple hours ago, I sent all the random crap I bought to Nana's house so now i just have a small black backpack with my wallet, phone, phone charger and Li's earbuds inside.
I stare at the little moving sheep animation that was displayed on the cafe's door. It's been on repeat 264 times already. I groan as the weird rat thing repeats his dumb lines and take out my phone, praying that it recharged to at least 50%.
49%.
Close enough.
I pull out the charger and start scrolling through my social media. Instagram, Snapchat, Tiktok, Pinterest. Boorring. I slump over in my chair, my neck craning backwards over the chairback. I open up my messages and start tapping away into the team group chat but before I send the message, I remember that they're probably busy. They'll reply but I'll just bother them.
I sit up and my bucket hat falls past my eyes. I walk up to order a boba from the cafe and on my way, I overhear an interesting conversation.
'Hey did you see the news about Jung Corps?' a guy asked his friend.
'No, what happened?' he asked.
'Apparently a couple hours ago, the CEO's daughter got into an accident and she was caught at the hospital with bandages on her arms,'
'You mean Jung Soo-ah? The insanely pretty one?'
'Yeah, her. Guess what happened next? She disappeared. Dispatch lost track of the model and her family just released a statement that if anyone sees her, they have to take her home for a reward,'
'Really? No way! She got kidnapped?'
'I think she ran away. Police aren't involved so I don't think any crime happened,'
I pull down the front of bucket hat a little bit more and return to my bag where I swiftly packed up.
'Do you see the reward money?'
'No...how much?'
'2,000,000,000 won,'
'2 billion won?!? You're joking!' he exclaimed.
'Imagine what we could buy with that much money...,' he trailed off.
'People born with money will always have money. They were different to us the moment they were born,'
'Mhm, look at the picture Dispatch caught of her,'
'Woah, even covered in bandages she still looks hot. It's been a while since she was in Korea. Isn't she studying abroad?'
'I think so. Wait a minute,'
The conversation behind Soo-ah ceased and she zipped up her backpack and headed for the door.
'HEY STOP,' came a yell from one of the boys.
But she just kept running.
