'What exactly don't I understand?'
Her tone froze the room as she raised her head to meet the scared eyes of her mother. The tension in the room was thick like a cat watching a dog, wondering if it was tamed.
Soo-ah chuckled lowly.
'The woman who calls herself my mother. Pathetic,' she spat.
Turning away to walk out of the room, a hand suddenly gripped her shoulder. She was pulled around-
SLAP.
The blondette staggered backwards as the sting on her cheek heightened and she fell onto the floor, right in the middle of the vase she broke. She gripped her fists and punched the floor on which she lay and pushed herself up, her windbreaker now torn from the broken glass, revealing her ruined white T-shirt underneath which had spots of blood on it.
Stupidly, she found a smile on her face, filled with chaos and evil as she straightened herself up, her over-sized jacket slipping down her shoulders.
'Perfect,'
She walked out, her footsteps filled with venom as she pressed a button on her phone. Passing by a mirror in the hallway, she observed her current appearance.
Dots of blood were splattered across her like a pattern and her arm has several pieces of glass stuck inside. Her neat and stylish clothing was now covered in water, dirt and blood and parts of it were broken. There was a large gash on her forehead where a piece of glass was stuck. She took pictures before dragging her suitcase to back out of the estate to the entrance to the underground mall where the security guards looked at her in alarm.
Pulling the glass out, she put on a cap and neatened her outfit .She took an underground train to Gangnam Severance Hospital where the receptionist immediately pulled her into the ER after she took off her hat.
*Soo-ah's POV*
'Stupid,' I thought as two doctors began examining every cut on her body, pulling out glass and bandaging her.
Why are they taking so damm long? Screw it.
I stand up and tell the doctors that I need to use the bathroom to which they let me and I stroll out of the white room to the reception desk.
'Can I please have a copy of the incident report?'
She went around to another room and I observe my appearance which was now a lot better. Bandages covered my forearms and along my right shoulder where I fell badly. I had plasters across my legs and bandages covering my forehead and my hair.
I pull the bandages on my head off and fix my hair, which got messy during the incident. I put on my cap again and covered my skinny arms and ruined shirt with my jacket which I stitched together using the tools I stole from those annoying doctors.
The nurse lady came back and handed it to me and I flip through it. Perfect.
I pull out a pair of shades and take out my phone, dialing the airport number.
'Hello? The next flight to Guangzhou for Jung Soo-ah, please,'
After a couple minutes, I ended the call and begin making my way back to the airport after stopping to buy a bunch of clothes with the only thing I got from my parents.
Money.
Rolling my eyes, I think back to how it was my nanny who had to transfer money from my parent's account to mine. I scan my credit card on everything in Gangnam and soon, I had bag fulls of receipts. Luckily, all stores can deliver your purchases.
Li is gonna flip though.
I arrive at the airport, looking like another trendy Korean girl and I quickly enter to my rightful terminal and sat down. My carry-on suitcase which I had been carrying around the whole day was now bursting with receipts and my shoulders were really aching.
'This must be the limit of my athletic ability,' I think, wincing as I stretched and pulled on my shoulder joints. (bruh why is this me in pe)
At this point, I was exhausted and my whole body was aching and in pain. My eyelids felt heavier and heavier and eventually I let my body fall into its subconscious.
*Li's POV*
Home.
'the place where one lives permanently, especially as a member of a family or household'
Ironically enough, I believe in this definition even though it barely applies to me. As someone who attended a boarding school in another country, I've barely had time to visit my home.
Some people would assume that I grew comfortable in Okinawa, which I did, but nothing and I mean nothing will ever make me feel the way Taishan does. Stepping out the plane, I could already feel the thinness of the airport air and the conventional smell of culture-enthusiastic tourists. I quickly make my way through the luggage collection and made my way outside of the airport where all the coaches and taxis lined up to collect their customers.
I was about to hail down a taxi when an idea popped into my mind. I pull out my phone and quickly press a familiar contact on my WeChat and wait for them to pick up. The first ring didn't even finish when it got cut by strange muffling sounds.
(from here, all their Taishanese is translated directly bbys <3)
'...Wei?' I call out, waiting for an answer. (idfk how to translate 'wei' sfdsfds someone help-)
'OMG, IT'S HER- asdfdsas,' the scream was followed by static and I feel a smile make its way to my face, my eyes curling into moons.
'Hey, Xiao Lan! How are you?' I chirp onto the phone.
Giggles were heard and I laugh back.
'Hello, Big Sis! I'm doing great! I missed you!' came the voice of a young child.
'I missed you too! I missed everyone!'
At this point the smile would not leave my face and I knew from the moment that I was born that I wouldn't be able to control that. Not here at least. Not in the place that gave me everything I have.
'Can you put your Ba on the phone? It'll be quick,'
'Aww ok, but be quick, ok?!?'
I laugh and there was a shout from the other end of the call and several cheers but eventually someone spoke back. 'Wei?'
'Hey, uncle Luo,' I reply, holding back my smile before my face cracks.
There was a gasp on his end.
'Ah Liling?!?' he stammered out.
'The one and only,' My pride and happiness swelled as the memories of my family come rushing back. Just like that one song. (Rushing Back by Flume, Vera Blue. ok that wasn't very smooth dont judge 😫😫😫)
'You're home?!?'
'Of course. There's no other place I'd rather be,'
