Held a 2 day Inclusion/Respect campaign at my school during lunch on February 18th and 19th. The campaign was created by the Special Olympics to rally students to pledge their support in promoting respect, inclusion and acceptance of people with intellectual disabilities. It is also used to raise the consciousness of society about the dehumanizing and hurtful effects of the work "retard(ed)" and encourage people to pledge respect to everyone. Students digitally signed the pledge and received a bracelet for their support. Around 400 people signed the pledge! Seven members of the Play Unified club helped at the booth during the 2 day period and I had tons of positive feedback from students and faculty about the event! Thanks to Liz Smith at SOGA for sending me the materials to hold the campaign and Ms. Ellis and Ms. James for helping me to plan the campaign at school.
