Step Up For Disabilities

10/27/19-Began Gold Award Project

I began working on my Gold Award proposal. My project is called "Step Up For Disabilities" because I want to center my project around improving the lives of people with Down Syndrome by encouraging physical fitness and social interaction. I want to make sure that my cousin has the quality of life that he deserves and enjoys an active lifestyle as he becomes an adult. I found a Down Syndrome organization in Atlanta called GiGi's Playhouse that provides free therapy services. They had a need for equipment to motivate children to work with therapists on physical challenges and that would encourage socialization and fun for kids with and without disabilities who come to GiGi's. After much research, I found a Therapy Play Unit that I could fundraise and build for them! My hope is that this unit will help kids by improving their mobility, fitness, social and sensory skills.
