Every year, my school holds an Alternative Gift Fair around Christmas time to let non-profits and student organizations raise money by selling items for people to give as Christmas gifts instead of typical Christmas gifts. It is used to advocate for student organizations as well as local/global non-profit organizations and businesses. This year, because of COVID, they are doing a digital gift guide instead of the in-person fair.GiGi's has a program for adult students called GiGi's Prep that provides training in communication and career skills. Prior to the pandemic, they made handmade products so that they can set up pop-up stores around Atlanta to sell the products to practice communication, money management and customer service skills. I worked with several GiGi's Board members to get their approval and then worked with the GiGi's site manager to come up with the paragraph included in the guide. The site manager then built the online purchasing platform with pictures of the gift items in it. I hope that they are able to sell a lot of the items to help fund their program! I wanted to make sure that their story was put in the guide to raise awareness about what has been going on at GiGi's and people with disabilities during the pandemic.
