As the day progressed, the two girls found something to occupy themselves. Wanda read her book again, loving the comfort it gave her, and y/n sat at the dining table.
She leaned in a chair slightly while position her damaged leg upon another chair to support it. While sitting as comfortably as she could, she held a chunk of wood in one hand, and a knife in the other.
She swiped the knife across the wood to shave off the sides, hoping to recreating the image in her head onto the piece of wood.
The only audible noise apart from the cutting of the wood was the occasional few words that wanda would mutter as she read from the book in her lap.
Y/n wasn't too far away from wanda and she heard it every time she did it, but she didn't mind the mumble. In fact, every time she heard the little mutters, she'd glance up at wanda for a moment with a small smile on her face.
Although, every so often when y/n glanced up she would notice wanda's stare already on her. She didn't focus on it too much and looked away, until it had happened so much that she couldn't ignore.
After the fourth stare, she dropped the wood down into a loose hold as her arm rested on her knee and she cocked her brow, "you see something you like?"
Fighting back the urge to strike back with a flirty comment, wanda squinted, "what are you doing?"
"Trying to entertain myself." She shrugged before focusing on carving the wood once again.
"With wood?" A furrowed brow accompanied the squint which remained on her face.
"Well, there was so much of it once you chopped it all up, I didn't want to waste it." She explained.
"And what are you making?" Releasing her face of the squint and furrowed brow, she gently tilted her head in confusion.
She dismissed, "It doesn't matter."
"I wanna see." She told her.
"It's really not important, wanda." Again, she dismissed.
Her curiosity overcame her and she stood up from the couch, walking slowly over to y/n, trying to peek at whatever she was carving.
Noticing wanda's cautious walk, y/n scrunched her face in confusion, "What are you doing?"
"Just roaming around." She shrugged, scattering her steps wherever she could to hide the fact she was walking closer to her.
Y/n tried to continue going back to carving the wood before she picked up on the fact that wanda was in fact creeping closer to her.
She looked up at wanda with a tut, "just roaming around, huh?"
"I'm just curious." She admitted, "can you blame me? You've been sitting there for half an hour cutting shavings of wood off with a knife."
"That's a very normal thing to do, we're in a wooden cabin surrounded by wood." She explained.
"Just show me it, the curiosity is going to frustrate me." She mentioned.
"Wanda, seriously, it's not that important." She shook her head.
She hummed, "If it's not that important, just show me it."
"You're not seeing it." She moved it closer to herself and further from wanda.
"I'll take it from you." She warned her.
"You can't use your powers, that's cheating." She mentioned.
She shook her head, "I won't have to." And walked even closer to her.
Without moving, y/n looked up at wanda as she practically towered over her, "you're not getting it, ms maximoff."
"Wanna bet?" She asked, but before y/n could fire back with a comment, she darted forward in an attempt to grab the wood from her.
Luckily, y/n pulled it away from her grasp quickly and leant further back in the chair. Wanda began giggling lightly as she leant her hand on the back of the chair right beside y/n's neck.
She now stood leaning over, holding herself up on the chair, trying as hard as she could to grab the carving.
"Come on." She laughed while trying to grab it from y/n's hands.
Even though she was practically leaning on y/n, wanda was incredibly cautious of her leg, making sure to not get anywhere near it in fear of hurting her.
"Wanda- I'm not letting you get it-." She attempted to say in a threatening tone, but it was drowned out by the sound of her laughing.
"I just need to know what it is." She whined, laughing along.
Then, finally, to get it out of reach from wanda, y/n quickly slotted the piece of wood on her stomach, covering it with her shirt so wanda couldn't get it.
Wanda paused, stood up straight and crossed her arms, looking down at y/n, "you seriously think that'll stop me from getting it?"
Hiding an impressed smirk, she came up with an excuse, "it's not done, yet. At least let me finish it, then I can show you."
With an impatient huff, wanda rolled her eyes. She then looked down at her again with her brows furrowed, "Does that seriously interest you?" She asked, almost sarcastically, "carving wood?"
She thought for a moment before shrugging, "It's not like I've got anything else to do."
Then, without a thought, wanda turned and walked through into her room, giving no explanation as to why she did that. A small huff slipped from y/n's lips before she returned her attention to cutting the corners from the wood.
A few moments went by and Wanda still hadn't returned, that was, until she walked around the corner, holding something in her hand.
Instead of saying what it was, she dropped it onto the dining table y/n sat by and stood still, waiting to see her reaction.
It landed on the wood of the table right in front of y/n, causing her to look up from her lap at the harsh noise it made.
She looked down at it, then at wanda, "what's this?"
"An old sokovian puzzle i had as a kid." She explained with a light shrug.
"A puzzle?" She repeated, waiting for wanda to say it was a joke. When she didn't give her the response she expected, she squinted, "You want me to do a puzzle?"
"You got something better to do?" She cocked her brow as she asked.
After asking that, she turned around and walked back to sit on the couch to continue reading her book. Knowing her attention was still turning onto her, y/n looked at the box, then back at her.
"Wanda, I'm," she laughed, "I'm not doing a puzzle."
She shrugged, dropping her attention to the book in her lap, "alright, whatever."
Once she realised wanda had actually stopped paying attention to her, she glanced at the lid of the puzzle box.
'maybe it would bring me closer to wanda.' She thought to herself as her eyes studied the box. 'if i did something that related to her childhood, maybe she wouldn't feel so alone. she'd have someone with a memory so early on in her life who could still share it with her today. even if i don't like puzzles, i don't want her to feel alone'
After mentally deciding her next actions, she sighed gently and removed the lid of the box, creating a light noise which wanda heard from the couch.
With the book in her hand, wanda smiled. However, it wasn't because y/n started to do the puzzle, it was because she heard the thought process which persuaded her to do so.
