Grass on a dry day

The weather remained sunny, yet still fairly cool, which gave the girls all the motivation they needed to carry out their planned picnic.

Like wanda suggested earlier, they brought out some more snack foods to eat on the grass, along with two bottles filled with refreshingly cold water.

Wanda had brought out a sheet: thin enough to allow the cool breeze to hit them, but thick enough to stop the grass from poking through. They still had a bunch of cherries left over from the previous night, and they weren't going to waste any of them.

The air was crisp and cool, despite how much the sun burned into everything. It was hot, yes, but the slightly cool breeze made it bearable enough for them to enjoy the morning.

Y/n sat up, her legs crossed beneath her, as she gently guided a knife along the same piece of wood she'd been occasionally carving whenever she had the change. Wanda lied down on her back with her hair softening the ground for her. Her eyes kept bouncing from the lake they were facing and to y/n, even though y/n wasn't looking back at her.

All she saw was y/n's arm moving in an orderly manor, but she couldn't quite figure out exactly what she was doing. That was, until, she decided to take a proper look.

She perched her head up from where she was, lying down, to try and see what y/n doing. When she recognised what it was she held in her hand, she squinted.

"Are you still carving that thing?" She asked.

Y/n shrugged, "Yeah, I didn't just throw it away."

"How are you still bored?" She furrowed her brows, automatically assuming the reasoning behind her actions.

"I'm not bored." She told her, "I've already started it, I might as well finish it."

"Okay, well, are you gonna tell me what it is?" She asked.

It took no time for her to make up her mind, "Nope."

Wanda impatiently groaned, "why?"

Y/n pivoted round to look at wanda, "it'll be a surprise, okay? You can't see it until it's done, that's the whole idea of a surprise."

"Fine." Wanda dropping back down to lay on the ground. For a moment there, wanda considered if she'd gone back to her stubborn and closed off ways because of the previous night, but that wasn't the case at all.

There was a silence between the two for a little while after that. A long, unwanted silence. Soon, it became unbearable for y/n, as she couldn't stop wondering what wanda was thinking.

After moments of silence past, y/n dropped the carving into her lap and decided not to continue with it anymore. Even though she really wanted to get it done, she wanted to bond with wanda more.

"How much d'you wanna bet that I can catch a cherry in my mouth?" Y/n asked after her eyes fell to the basket of cherries that rested beside her.

Wanda paused, "we're not betting actual money, are-"

"No, wanda, it's just a thing people say." She chuckled to herself, admiring how adorable wanda was.

Considering it, she hummed, "I don't think you'll be able to."

She inhaled sharply and squinted, "you underestimate me, maximoff."

Wanda turned and leant her hand against her head and her elbow on the ground to be able to watch how the events would play out, "Okay then, prove me wrong."

"Fine, i will." She casually shrugged, picking up a cherry from the basket, "you ready?"

She nodded, "oh, yeah."

Then, before she could overthink it and mess up her confidence, she lightly tossed the cherry in the air, where it then fell and landed nicely in her mouth.

"Fuck yeah!" She smiled as she ate it.

"That was good, I'll admit." Wanda smiled.

"I'll do it again." Y/n bragged, throwing another cherry in the air again.

However, this time, it didn't land in her mouth. Instead, it hit the corner of her mouth and bounced off, rolling onto the blanket beside her before it paused.

"Oh, for fucks sake." She groaned, looking down at it on the blanket beside her.

Wanda clapped her hand in excitement, "That means I win."

"Alright, alright." Y/n playfully rolled her eyes.

"You got too cocky." She explained, almost like she answer a question that wasn't even asked.

"Yeah, yeah, I got the message." She dismissed, causing wanda to lightly giggle.

Wanda's giggle remained, even when she lied down on her back, her head facing the sun. While wanda giggled to herself, y/n had turned her head round to see Wanda, which caused her to smile softly to herself.

"What's my prize, then?" Wanda asked, squinting the sun away from her eyes.

"You want a prize? Seriously?" She asked, "was the right to brag not enough for you?"

She chuckled, then shrugged, "I want my prize."

For a moment, there was a silence as she thought. But it didn't take long for an idea to spark her interest, "Give me your hand."

"What?" Wanda scrunched her face in confusion.

"Just give me your hand." She repeated, holding her hand out for wanda to rest hers on top.

It didn't take much persuasion for her to give in after all, which y/n picked up on. With a gentle sigh, wanda placed her hand in the palm of y/n's, keeping her eyes on her at all times.

Y/n gently moved wanda's fingers down so her hand was completely flat, "now close your eyes."

Her face scrunched, "Are you-."

"Trust me, just do it." She looked her in the eyes.

That's what she needed. For y/n to look her deeply in the eyes, that was her weakness. To wanda, y/n could ask anything as long as she was looking deeply into her eyes and she'd say yes.

So, with a soft sigh, wanda obliged and closed her eyes. When wanda closed her eyes, y/n pushed herself off of the blanket and began trailing around on the grass around them, searching for something.

Wanda's brows furrowed as she heard the noise of y/n walking around on the grass around her, but she didn't open her eyes - not even for a quick glimpse.

Even when she felt y/n sit down on the blanket beside her, wanda's eyes remained sealed tight. When y/n was comfortable on the floor again, she took wanda's hand in hers and held it out again so she could place what she'd just picked up into her hand.

The rock she'd picked up fit into wanda's hand perfectly, and wanda knew exactly what it was by the feel of it, which made her smile. When she opened her eyes, she gained the verification of her assumption and smiled even more.

With her smile still on her face, she cocked her brow, "I'm assuming this is rent."

"Oh, no." Y/n shook her head, "that, my dear, is your prize."

"Then I will cherish this forever." She told her, lightly chuckling.
