River was extremely annoyed with his current situation. What was there to do now? What about his life that he had created? He definitely could not live in water. If what Veronica said was true that there might be a chance for him to have his legs again, he wouldn’t mind going through all that pain.
When he was younger, this sort of thing seemed magical but now that he is living it, this life doesn’t not look as fantastic as it did before. He had nestled in a corner with Daisy as he thought things through. Not only did his life changed but he himself has completely transformed.
How would his life had been if he wasn’t found at the shore? Would he have been just like this? Surviving, hunting, mating? Maybe he could shift back into human, wishfully thinking he had done it before when he was an infant. They didn’t say he was half human, no they said he was not human, that he had alien properties in his blood. So was he alien? Did he get lost or was he abandoned?
A thought flashed in his mind and he looked up at the camera. She did say that because of him, new doors of possibilities opened for them and that she had recently discovered something remarkable. Maybe he wasn’t alone? Maybe they had another creature like him, someone not created but a natural born?
Suddenly a red light flicked on the ceiling which jolted River from his resting state and he swam to the surface, Daisy followed behind. He did notice that after regaining his conscience, his body moved slowly as if how he would normally swim. He thought it was a muscle memory or his hope to still turn back into human.
“River, please be prepared to move into the previous room and then wait to follow further instructions”, came the voice from the box and soon the circular glass slid in the corner of the wall. He didn’t know what to do, should he go or protest? But he was bored sitting in this room big enough to circle and roam but with nothing else to do.
He dove back and swam towards the opening, he looked back and saw Daisy following him but when he got into the room first, a net blocked Daisy from following and the door closed. He saw her panic and swim in circles, he actually felt her clicks and squeaking to him. Since he couldn’t speak human tongue, he might as well try something else.
He closed his mouth and tried making click sound which didn’t work then he just yelled which to his ears was a high pitch noise that could break glass but it looked like it worked as Daisy stopped running in circles but floated by the door and looked at him like a puppy. He moved closer and patted the glass and felt vibrations resonating his body after Daisy opened her mouth.
She swam back to the other side and so did he. The previous blood bath was cleaned and the water was completely freshened. He got to the surface, still feeling awkward with the huge body and tail. He got his head out then slowly his upper body as he watched them hoist a long but narrow tank on to the top of the pool.
Veronica came with all rainbows and glitter smiles, “River, we will drop the tank on the surface and open the bottom for you to get inside and after it’s full of water we will hoist you up and then we will go to the surface and fly to headquarters”, she informed the plans to the siren.
He just stared at her without agreeing or disagreeing. Her smile stiffened, “River, don’t try to think of anything. There’s vast ocean outside and creatures that are possibly predators to your kind. I know you are scared of ocean and have never gone as far as to further from the beach. Just comply and we will have better chance on helping you turn back into human”, she said.
White transparent membrane slid from the corner of his eyes as that of a crocodile when he blinked then he dove back in and splashed his tail on the surface just like how he had seen dolphins do. Veronica quickly retreated backwards and narrowly escaped being splashed. Her smile was forced as she turned around and nodded to the people.
