Chapter 13- Walls down

The ceiling in Riley’s glass cell opened up and the claw machine dove in and picked him up then the ceiling closed. River was glaring at the people through the gap who didn’t meet his eyes. After the ceiling closed, River noticed how Wayde had placed himself in front of him, in a protecting stance.

He raised his non existent eyebrows then tried escaping out of the glass cell. As soon as he moved he was tackled to the floor and rows of pointy teeth flashed in front of his eyes. River’s nightmare memory kicked in and his entire body went numb, his eyes were shut and his heartbeat went haywire.

Wayde sensed immense and intense fear wafting off the boy below him. He wanted to scare him into submission but not to the point where the boy feared him. Meras were highly sensitive creatures, they felt everything strongly which had it’s pros and cons. Negative emotions could make them mentally unstable and render them useless.

He loosened his hold and moved to the exit of the wall and placed himself as a guard, looking guilty yet stern. He felt good when the boy killed the creature and the misunderstanding he had was gone but then when he saw River act in such a way for the other Lander’s creation, he was disappointed again.

Wayde hadn’t seen River’s interaction with the long creature but he had seen the bond and closeness he had with this one and felt bitter when he saw the boy’s face was laced with concern and worry.

When nothing attacked him, his fear slowly seeped out and the panic dispersed. River rose his upper body and looked at Wayde with hate and anger. “What do you mean by all this?! I don’t even know if you have regained conscience or you are losing it! What do you want?”, he heatedly questioned.

He watched as Wayde stared at him then he saw the guy’s expression change. Wayde looked at him with narrowed eyes then in a flash he hovered on top of River. River readied his attack mode on and waited for the other fish tail to attack him. When Wayde lowered his head, River hissed and swiped his claws at him but his hands were caught and the grip tightened.

River used his other hand and his tail to flip the guy but his hand was caught again and his body was pressed by the other’s body. Fear creeped in his bones and the incident from few minutes ago flashed in his mind. River’s pupil’s constricted and he used all his strength to push the guy off of him. “No! Get off me! Get off! No!!”, he thrashed and pushed but the guy weighed more than him.

A deep tone of vibrations left Wayde’s mouth which stupefied River and made him feel like thick pressure was building inside his head as if strong hands were getting closer and closer inside his mind. His movements stopped and all his attention was put together to fight the protruding in his mind.

He watched as Wayde lowered his head as if coming in for a kiss but it went down to his neck, his chest, arms and back to his face. A very confused look was evident in Wayde’s expression, he opened his mouth, “La-an-der”, he spoke in deep voice then pain covered his face and he groaned. River didn’t know what was going on then he stilled further when the guy on top of him dropped his whole weight on him.

After his shock subsided, he groaned loudly and pushed the body off himself then saw a blue dart stuck on Wayde’s back. He looked up and saw Veronica lower the gun and turn around. Claw machine came back in and swooped Wayde’s body first then his own after a while and on his way up, he saw Micah’s body being picked up from the inner circle.

Guilt and fear filled his heart, he remained silent when he was taken away from the room and into the other room which was most probably above the inner circle because he watched as Micah’s body was being taken out of the same room and all the way to the elevator.
