Hannahs gasps. "No!"
"Maybe I'm jumping to conclusions—."
"Fuck fuck fuck fuck!!!" Hannah shoves her hands into her hair, and I do a double-take. Hannah is anything but immaculate and her messing it up like that shows she's extremely alarmed.
"Hannah you're scaring me." More than I already am if that's even possible.
I don't register anything she says, my mind all too focused on the reality of the situation. "So... so what you're saying is Rhett slapped my ass because of my connection to you?" I didn't mean to word it like that but I'm so afraid I'm barely able to form a coherent thought, let alone speak.
Hannah grabs my hands and pulls my limp body forward. "Hazel I'm so sorry. I can't even begin to describe how sorry I am. He tortured my fam..." Hannah trails off, catching the look of terror marking my expression. "Hold on a second, Damien beat up this guy this week, right?"
"This- this m... Monday to be exact."
Hannah lets out a long relieved breath. "Damien beat up Rhett a couple months ago."
My relief only lasts a second... since it isn't me Damien beat Rhett up because of then it most definitely is Hannah.
"So that means..."
"He beat up Rhett because of me." Hannah finishes for me.
"PLEASE HAZEL!" My sister begs for the fifth time this morning.
"Get Dad to take you. I'm really tired," I say on a yawn. She's been pestering me since nine this morning to take her to her friends last minute birthday party.
"He's not gotten out of bed yet. It's a weekend you know he wakes up super late on a weekend, please!"
I open my eyes and find her pleading with her hands pressed together.
Her soft face makes me give in. "Which friend is it?"
Sierra isn't as excited as I expected her to be. Actually, she isn't excited at all; she tucks her lips in between her teeth and looks away.
Her reaction makes me wonder if it's a boy. If so, I wouldn't tell mum. She's only ten years old but then again I also had crushes on guys when I was her age, younger even, but I was too shy to ever say anything. Hannah actually had her first boyfriend at her age.
"Is it a boy?" I whisper.
Her eyes bulge and she shakes her head no. "It's Amanda."
I sit up in bed, my tiredness from minutes ago lost in my anger. "The girl that bullied you?" I was on Sierra's phone, sending myself pictures she took of Rosie when I got a horrible text notification. I opened it and saw this girl had been bullying my sister. She used the same vulgar words in Hannahs curse dictionary, and that alone says a lot.
I confronted my sister and at first, she tried to deny it but the messages were so cruel eventually she gave in and confessed everything.
I didn't say anything to the girl because that would be inappropriate since she's a kid so I rang the school, too afraid of going there myself since it's right next to my old high school. They told the girls parents and made sure she stayed away from my sister. So to say I'm shocked she's invited my sister to her birthday would be an understatement.
