Chapter 13
Continued....
"How are things in the hospital?" Meredith asked.
"Good. Good. I actually brought a few cases for us to look at. It's been busy around there." Bailey said as she pulled out a pile of files.
"Thank god. I'm bored as hell around here." She said with a small chuckle.
"I heard Derek's mom was here." Bailey started. "How is she? How you doing with that?"
"She's really nice. I'm definitely not used to having a nice mother. But it's okay." Meredith replied honestly.
"Good."
"Hey, how's Alex doing? I...I know he feels guilty." Meredith asked worriedly. "He's alright, I think. But he's not himself. I overheard him talking to Yang the other day talking about how Zola was his fault and what happened was his fault." Bailey explained.
"I'd kick his ass if I could. Can you do it?" Meredith asked. Bailey snorted. "Girl, I don't wanna get fired. But off the record, I will."
"So, you said you haven't heard anything about Zola?" Bailey asked hesitantly.
"Nothing yet. Janet called while we were at the hospital and said the court wants to give us another chance, so we're just...waiting." Meredith replied with a sigh.
"You'd be a good mom, Grey." Bailey complimented.
Meredith scoffed. "I'm not so sure about that."
"You would. I've seen you with kids before, with Tuck. You're good with them. You and Derek will be excellent parents." Bailey said.
Meredith flashed a small smile. "Thanks."
"No problem. Now let's work on these cases."

"Could she be pregnant?" Meredith asked. The two women were consulting on a 35 year old woman with an unknown mass. It didn't show any signs of cancer or anything, but her HCG levels were risen.
"Maybe. I don't know. I've been trying to figure this out for a while now. Once you come back, it'll be easier." Bailey said.
"Bailey, who knows if I can even come back?"
"Oh, enough of that. We'll find a way to get you back. Even if it's only charting or rounding temporarily. You gotta get more positive." Bailey scolded.
"I can't walk Bailey. I don't want to wheel through the hospital like an idiot."
"Meredith Grey! Stop it. This isn't permanent. You will get your feeling back. But in the meantime, accept it. You have to accept it to work to your goal. And I know you've been working hard in PT, so that's the first step."
"And how would you know that?" Meredith asked with a raised eyebrow.
"I'm dr Bailey. I see everything and I know everything. You should know this by now."
Meredith chuckled. "Listen, I know you don't like being immobile and feel like a child, but youre gonna have a baby soon. You have to be positive." She said.
"I'm trying my best." Meredith replied. "I know Grey. I know you are. And that's why you're my favorite. You never stop working. And if you tell anyone I said that I'll deny it until my face turns blue." Bailey said sternly.
Meredith giggled. "Yes Dr Bailey."

A few hours later, Derek arrived back home. "Thank you for coming Dr Bailey." Meredith said gratefully. "It's Miranda, honey. I'll see you two around." Bailey said, leaving.
"How was your day? Any good surgeries?" Meredith asked as Derek took his coat off and sat down.
"Nothing special. Just a few craniotomies." Derek replied. "What about you? What did you and Bailey do?"
"Talked and went over a few cases. It was nice having someone else here to talk to." Meredith admitted.
"Good." He said, kissing her softly. "She said I would be a good mom." Meredith said quietly.
"She's right, you know. When we get Zola back I'm sure your mommy instincts will shine right through." He said. "We're gonna get her back, right?" She asked, showing a vulnerability Derek had seen frequently since the accident.
"We won't stop until we have a definite reason. We'll get her back." Derek assured. "I miss her."
"I do too, Mer. We're going to have a baby, one way or another."
"I know. But Zola... she's our first. We had her for a few days and I already feel like she's our daughter." Meredith admitted. "She is our daughter. I'll call Janet soon." Derek replied.
Meredith nodded. "Oh, and Owen asked me about the baseball game. You want to come?" Derek asked. "There's a lot of people." She muttered embarrassed.
"So?" Derek asked. "I don't want to. You can though." Meredith replied. "Why Mer?" Derek asked.
"Are you embarrassed?" He asked gently. Meredith looked away, but nodded. "Don't be. If you don't want to go that's okay. We can stay in and relax." He said.
"Okay." Meredith replied. "Can you help me shower?"
"Of course. Let's go."
•••
Derek lifted Meredith on to the chairlift and walked up next to her. He lifted her back into his arms at the top of the stairs and walked to the bathroom, placing her down in the chair he installed.
Once Derek got the water on, he stripped his clothes and hers and lifted her into the water and onto the shower chair.
"Can you just hold me up for a minute? I want to feel like I can do something." Meredith asked. Derek smiled sadly and nodded, holding her under her armpits.
Meredith washed her body herself and then proceeded to wash dereks too. This wasn't a sexual act though, it was just an intimate moment between a man and woman who loved each other.
"I love you." She said, pressing her lips to his. "I love you too Mer. Let's get you dressed." He replied with a dreamt smile.
•••
Meredith and Derek both got dressed and Derek carried Meredith to the stairlift and got her downstairs.
Meredith transferred to her normal wheelchair and rolled to the living room, then transferring to the couch once again.
Derek did the same and sat down when his phone rang.
"Hello, Shepherd residence?" He asked into the phone.
"Hi Derek. We have some news."
"Janet?"
