Chapter 48
Carolyn Shepherd left Derek and Merediths house a little while ago, and decided it was time for a visit. Nancy didn't need her anymore, since the baby was born a little while ago.
She hopped onto a plane and flew down to Seattle. She hasn't heard much from either of them, and she said wanted to know how Merediths recovery was going. And she wanted to see her baby boy and granddaughter, of course.
Once her flight landed, she got a taxi to their dream house. After about an hour drive, she tipped the driver and knocked at the door. She has no idea if anyone was home, but it was a Saturday evening so she figured they would.
Derek opened the door with Zola is his arms and a surprised look rose on his face. "Mom. What are you doing here?" Derek asked.
"I wanted to visit. May I?" Carolyn asked. Derek opened the door wider and Carolyn stepped in. "Der? Who is it?" Meredith asked, rolling in to the room.
"Oh. Mom. Hi." She said with a smile. "Hi Meredith. How are you doing, sweetie?" Carolyn asked as she walked over.
"Good. Good." She replied. "What brings you here?" Meredith asked. "Just wanted to visit. I hope that's okay." Carolyn answered as she patted Merediths leg.
"Ow." Meredith winced. "Oh, I'm sorry. Wait, you-you can feel that?" Carolyn asked with a hopeful smile. Meredith grinned. "Yeah. I have some feeling back in my leg." She replied.
"That's amazing!!" Carolyn exclaimed. "You didn't call me about it?" She asked Derek. "Uh, it only happened a few days ago. We were going to call." Derek replied.
"Okay. Are you guys doing anything today?" Carolyn asked. "No. We were just planning on relaxing in the house today." Meredith replied.
"Good." Carolyn said. Derek handed Zola to Meredith and grabbed Carolyns bags to bring them to the guest room. "And how's my granddaughter?" She asked as she took a seat on the couch while Meredith transferred.
"She's good. She's been babbling a lot." Meredith answered. "They grow up so fast. Cherish it while you can." Carolyn said.
"Oh, I know. Derek and I hope when i maybe have full feeling we can try for another." Meredith admitted. "Good. I can never have too many grand babies. And you two would make beautiful babies and Zola would be a fantastic sister." Carolyn said.
"Thanks." Meredith replied as Derek came back. "What are we talking about?" He asked. "Babies." She answered. Derek nodded and smiled.
"So, has anything else happened while I was gone?" Carolyn asked. "Nothing really. Mers scans showed the nerve reconnecting and if she keeps up PT there's a high chance she'll fully recover." Derek explained.
"What about you? How's Nancy and the baby?" Meredith asked. "They're both good. The birth went smoothly. Her name is Gracie, 6 pounds 7 ounces." Carolyn replied.
"That's good." Meredith answered.

A little while later, Meredith and Derek were in bed, as were Carolyn and Zola. Carolyn had arrived around 5pm, so it was only a few hours they had that night.
"Hi." Derek whispered suddenly as he rolled on top of her. "Hey." She replied, kissing him softly. "What are you doing?" Meredith giggled. "I'm horny." He whispered.
"Derek, your mother is in the next room." Mereditj gasped as she felt his weight on her leg. She hasn't been able to feel that in months.
"So? She's asleep." Derek argued, kissing her deeply. "Fine. But if she says sometning it's on you."
Meredith and Derek collapsed back into bed a little bit later and Meredith chuckled. "Derek?" She asked. "Yeah?" He replied as he played with her hair.
"You want more babies, right?" Meredith asked. "Of course. Do you?" Derek asked. "Yes. I just...what if I can't have any? Or carry a baby?" She questioned embarrassingly.
"If you can't, we'll adopt more. It's not a big deal. Zola's our daughter, whether she's blood related or not, so what's a few more?" Derek replied.
"And for the record, Mer, I think you'll be okay to carry a baby." He added.
"I hope so." She replied. "But we have to wait until you can stand and walk. Nothing before that. As Mark says, 'no glove no love'." Derek said with a laugh.
"No glove no love. Where does he even come up with that?" Meredith giggled. "Who knows. Mark comes up with a lot of stuff. I do know that it was his motto in college."
"I'm not surprised. At least he's somewhat settling down now." Meredith said as she rolled her eyes. "He deserves it." Derek replied honestly.
"Do you remember when Sofia was just a baby, and Mark called us all the time about what to do with her when she got soap in her eyes or something?" Meredith giggled.
"And he still does that. We didn't even have Zola yet!" Derek laughed. "He's a good guy." He added softly. "Yeah. I hope he and Lexie make it someday." Meredith replied.
"They will. It took a while for us to get together, but we did. And Lexie and Mark will too."
"Hey, how's your leg feeling?" Derek asked after a moment. "Good. I'm just waiting to feel the other leg now. Lucy has me doing some different workouts now." Mereditj andwered.
"Like what?" Derek asked. As a neurosurgeon, he had known quite a bit of physical therapy stretches. And he liked to help her out Meredith whenever possible.
"Just more focused on the right leg now. Like leg lifts to strengthen the nerve. I'm doing that with both legs, but more of my right one." Meredith explained.
"Ah." Derek replied as Meredith yawned. "Go to sleep. I love you." He whispered. "I love you too." She replied sleepily as she rested her head on his chest and fell asleep.
Derek quickly followed her, and let himself succumb to sleep with a warm body in his arms.
