Chapter 18
Meredith and Zola were busy as they were watching the game, cheering for Derek and the team. Zola seemed to be happy and Meredith seemed to totally forget about her situation.
"Hey, baby girl. Are you tired?" Meredith asked as Zola laid her head on Meredith's chest
"This is your relief pitcher?" Meredith heard a woman say "Hey, my grandma's not busy" The woman pointed to Lexi "She can pitch better than that!" This was taking Meredith's attention as she saw how Lexi threw the ball right in the woman's boob who she identified as Julia, Mark's kind of girlfriend.
"Oh! Right in the boob" Meredith heard Callie saying before they started yelling and fighting. Even Owen was yelling at the trainer of the other team.
"What's happening" Meredith screamed, trying not to scare Zola who fell asleep on Meredith's lap.
Everyone kept screaming and Meredith wanted to go take a look but she couldn't go further because of her wheelchair and the underground.
Meredith saw Cristina and Alex laughing while they were drinking their liquor as she saw Derek running towards them "Hey, seems like we won't be able to continue this game" Derek said as he kissed Zola's head
"Derek, go do something! They are screaming at Lexi!" Meredith got angry
"Mer, it's fine. They are adults" Derek rolled his eyes "You know them"
"Derek!" She yelled, making her cough "Check on them!"
"Mer, come on let them do whatever they are doing. Motherhood definitely changed you. Before you would probably have joined Alex and Cristina while drinking during the game"
"Fine" She sighed "And probably" She giggled
...
"So almost everyone is drunk except for us?" Meredith sighed
"It's kind of funny!" Derek said, holding his wife close. She was sitting on his lap and Zola was still sound asleep in Meredith's arms, a blanket on top of them keeping them warm and hiding the way Meredith's legs were awkwardly hanging down, not resting on the feetrest like she's used to.
"It is" She giggled, coughing again
"We should head home, Mer"
"Can't we stay a little longer?"
"Zola's tired and I don't want you to get sick!"
"Derek, my throat is a little sore because of all the screaming and cheering Zola and I did today. Please don't go all hoovery because I'm paralyzed" She made him clear
"Mer, you and I both know that SCI patients die of a cold. You can get a cold that turns into pneumonia and that can kill you!" He yelled a little too loud, taking the attention of the others
"You're right, we should go home" She sighed
"Thank you, Mer. And I didn't want to yell.. I just don't want to lose you, okay?"
Meredith nodded as Derek lifted her back in her chair, adjusting the blanket to keep her and Zola warm before saying their goodbyes and heading to the car.
"Hey, baby! Did you enjoy?" Derek talked to Zola as she just woke up as he was buckling her into the car, Meredith closely watching them.
"And did you enjoy it?" He asked Meredith as he held her chair as she tried to get herself in the car but Derek noticed she got tired and her legs were spasming but not too obvious so he helped her, he immediately pulled her up and helped her getting her legs on the right position before folding her chair and getting in, himself.
"Today was a nice day, I enjoyed it" She whispered as she was leaning against the window
"I'm happy you enjoyed it, Zola seemed to enjoy it too" He smiled "Tired?" He asked
"Hmm.. yes" Meredith yawned
"Sleep, Mer. I'll wake you when we get home" She whispered
...
Derek arrived at the house and Carolyn walked outside.
"Mom, Mer is asleep. Can you take Zola inside?" He asked his mother
"Of course, Derek! I'll bring her to bed" Carolyn said before unbuckling her granddaughter and walking into the house.
Derek unbuckled Meredith and carried her inside of the house and upstairs before he gently placed her in the bed and started to tuck her in. He grabbed the wheelchair she uses upstairs and placed it next to her so if she wakes up at night, she can at least get around herself.
Derek walked out of the room and grabbed her meds before saying goodnight to his mother. Before going to his own room he decided to check on his daughter, he entered her room and saw her asleep. She looked like a happy baby, their happy baby. He gently closed the door and walked to his and Meredith's bedroom.
"Mer.. wake up, baby"
"Hmm?" She moaned
"Meds" He whispered before handing her the pills and a bottle of water
She took them in "Derek, I need to pee. But I'm too tired to-"
"I'll carry you, no problem" Derek said as he scooped her up as he placed her on the toilet so she could do her business. Meanwhile he started changed into his PJ's before helping Meredith change
"We need to check on Lexie" He said before clearing her throat several times "Don't forget" She said after a few short cough's
"Mer. I don't want to be hoovery, I don't want to sound insane but are you okay? Do you feel sick?"
"No, Derek. I just overdid my voice today" She rolled her eyes
"Okay but drink this first" He handed her a bottle of sirup in the hope it would help a little
"Okay" She sighed
Derek helped her finish undressing as they both started to get ready for the night
Once they were snuggled up in their bed Meredith started talking again "I'm so happy with our little family" She smiled
"Me too, Mer.. I couldn't have asked more" He smiled back before the two of them drifted off.
