The rays of light shot from the windowsill as it landed it's soft beams on the leafy trees of the Twinleaf town forest. The ragged dirt from the pathway causes the air to me visible, making it harder to see the scenery around. Without hesitation, beams of watery bubbles flew up into the air, causing them to pop, letting drips of water glimmer in the summer breeze.
"Now use Ice Beam!" Dawn yelled as the water droplets shimmered in the air. Like instantly, beams of ice shot out of the blue penguins mouth, freezing the droplets, forming which turned to crystals, bouncing the sun rays off of each other. Dawn smiled as her partner landed on his two flippers. "Nice job Piplup, that was some great moves." Piplup stood there smirking at his trainer.
"I see you're getting ready for the next set of contests." Dawn looked up to see a familiar face walking towards her. Her red hair matched her clothes as she made her way to Dawn.
"Yep," Dawn said, throwing her arm up in the air, declaring her chance of victory. "After the ones in Hoenn, I will win for sure." Zoey smiled, handing Dawn a bottle of water.
"You hear where the contests are being held this year?" Zoey asked, grabbing her friend's attention.
"No, I heard it's in a month or two..."
"Yep, in Kanto," Zoey said, interrupting Dawn's thoughts. Dawn never really had a chance to go and explore the vast region of Kanto. After separating from Ash and Brock, she stayed in Sinnoh for a while to finish Buneary's photo shoots. She then went to Unova for a bit and met up with Ash and his new friends. From there, her journey took her to the region full of water. But for some reason, she wanted to go to Kanto, not because of the thought of adventure, but because of seeing her old friends. It's been more than a long time since she talked to Ash and Brock. With Ash's energetic personality and Brock's knowledge of pokemon, her journey went from exciting to boring once the two Kanto natives left her side. She thought about her best friend, the one who changed her life, helping her see her goal. Dawn smiled at the thought of Ash, yet she missed him a different way.
"Dawn?" Zoey asked in concern. "Are you listening to me?" She snapped her fingers in front of her face. Dawn Looked up to see her friend's face, plastered with confusion and concern.
"Yah, that will be a fun trip to experience," Dawn said as she rubbed the back of her head. She then got up on her feet and picked up her partner, keeping him tucked in between her arms.
"I'm so excited," Zoey said as she followed Dawn out of the forest.
"Yah, it would be."
Ever since her talk with Zoey, Dawn's memories of Ash have resurfaced the more she thought about Kanto. She's confused why she misses him, nevertheless, she may not see him during her journey and battling for the title of top coordinator.
"Dawn, are you okay?" her mom asked, handing her dinner. "You haven't really said anything since you got back from training." Dawn's pokemon looked at her in concern, wondering what their young trainer was thinking. Dawn smiles, looking at her pokemon and her mom.
"I'm ok. I'm just thinking about when to go to Kanto," Dawn said as she ate her food, but her mood said otherwise. Her mom Looked at her, still concerned about Dawn, she sat down at the dinner table and gave her daughter a loving look.
"You know you can tell me anything," she said grabbing both of Dawn's hands. The thought of the Kanto boy made Dawn turn her cheeks hot red. Her mom saw this and smirked.
"You miss him don't you," her mom said, raising an eyebrow, smirking. Dawn's face became redder, trying to hide it in her arms. She wished that her likings of Ash hadn't changed, but it did. She used to be the best of friends with the Kanto boy, now she can't control herself when his picture is in her head. Dawn popped her head up like a Diglet, giving her mom the Pichu eyes.
"Is it that obvious?" Dawn asked, still embarrassed about her feelings. All she heard was her mom chuckling, not helping the situation at all for her.
"Well," her mom said as she got up from her chair and headed to the kitchen with her plate in hand. "Yes, it's pretty obvious." Once again, Dawn buried her head in her arms, still full of embarrassment. Her mom smiled and walked over to her daughter, giving her a hug.
"It's ok to have those feelings," she said as she continued to hug her daughter. "Sometimes, you can't determine what the heart wants. Feelings change throughout life, but you should know that I'm ok for you to date him." There was sudden shaking from Dawn, like she was in her own earthquake. Dawn then broke her hug with her mom and got out of her chair, now facing her mom with a bright, red flustered face.
"But I don't want these feelings," Dawn said, almost yelling at her mom. "I don't want these feelings to control me. I don't want to love him, it might ruin my friendship with him. And if I lose him..." she stopped and collapsed onto the ground, tears flowing down her face as she cried. "I just can't lose my friendship with him. He just means so much to me." Her mom was stunned at the sudden action Dawn has created, seeing her like this was very un-like her. She knew when her daughter was in pain, and she can tell that this boy has done so. She walked to the weeping girl and started to hug her again, now calming Dawn down.
"If you want him so much, go after him." The rest of the night fell silent in the Berlitz household.
