Chapter 7: Define

 She looked around the Pokemon Center as she searched for her missing friend.

"Where could have Dawn gone?" May asked herself. She made her way to the desk, wondering about where that Sinnoh trainer went off to.

"Hey Nurse Joy," May said, making the nurse turn her head to face the Hoenn Princess. "Can I register for the contest please?"

"Sure, just give me one second." The nurse disappeared behind into the door as she went to heal some pokemon. May waited patiently as she wondered if Dawn would show up on time for the registrations. She shook it off as the nurse came out holding a tablet in her hand. She smiled as she handed May the tablet to fill out the form. May finished in a few seconds and handed it back over to the nurse.

"Can I register as well." May turned around to see Serena running over to the counter with Ash and his friends following right behind.

"Sure thing," Nurse Joy said as she handed Serena the tablet. The group waited for Serena to finish filling out the paper when all of a sudden, May heard a familiar voice coming from behind her. She turned around to see a devilish smile, one who pained her during past contests.

"Oh May," the man said as he made his way to the counter. "It's so nice to see you again." May rolled her eyes and sighed, not excited to see the man standing in front of her at the moment. Sure he was nice before she actually competed in contests, but when she actually participated, he was a devil playing dirty.

"What do you want Harley," May spat, as she watched him take a form from Nurse Joy.

"I came here to compete of course. Isn't that the purpose of filling out this form?" he asked, though he grinned at the excitement of seeing her new friend. "Whose this sugar plum?" he asked as he walked closer to the honey blonde girl. Ash put his arm in front of her making Harley stop in his tracks.

"Back off Harley," May said coldly, glaring at the purple hair man. He snickered and laughed as he turned to Serena who was kind of scared of the man.

"I've seen you before, the performer from Kalos," he said as he turned his back against them. "You'll never be a true Coordinator, ever. You're just going to lie in the shadows of your frie-"

"She told you to back off," Ash said as he continued to glare at the man. Both Goh and Chloe were shocked to see the man poisoning their mind there friend, but angered by the way he walked all over her. Harley laughed, as he walked out of the building.

"Do what you want Serena," Harley said as he made it to the doorway of the building. "Just remembered what I said." With that, Harley left the build, smiling to himself, already taking victory on the contest. May and Ash had concerned looks on their faces as they watched Serena sit down on one of the sofas in the center.

"Come on Serena," Ash said as he tried to comfort the honey blonde girl. "Forget about what Harley said. You are much stronger then he is."

"Am I?" Serena whimpered softly, only allowing Ash to hear her. Ash smiled and gave his friend a hug, making the girl tensed up a little bit. Internally, Ash could hear his heartbeat faster and faster every second, but he didn't care. He didn't care if everyone makes fun of him blushing, he didn't care if he saw Goh or May snickering in the background. All he could think about was to make Serena happy, to make her smile once again. He felt two soft hands on his back as he hugged the girl in his arms. He then whispered into her ears, "Yes. Yes you are."

Both Goh and Chloe felt uneasy, the fact a grown man, who somehow did this in the past and never got caught, just hurt one of their friends. Goh's mussels tensed as he stormed out of the building.
