Chapter 10: Dimond, Pearl, and Others

 As the trio walked closer to the fire type gym, Clemont tapped the shoulders of the girl, confused she stopped in her tracks.

"What's up?" Dawn asked.

"How come you are coming with us?" Clemont asked, earning another confused look by Dawn.

"What do you mean?"

"I mean, don't you have the contest soon?" Dawn stood there thinking, putting a finger near her chin.

"Well," she said as she started to walk again, having the gym leader following her. "I think it's more important to watch Bonnie's gym battle. Contests can wait. Plus, I want to take a break for a while." Clemont looked at her confused, wondering what she meant.

"What do you mean by 'taking a break.'" he asked in a worried voice. Dawn smiled and looked up to the endless, cloudless sky.

"I've been having a losing streak lately when it comes to winning a Grand Festival," she said as she continued to follow Bonnie who was skipping in front of the two teens. "I have been so close to winning, getting second place in my first festival. But I somehow can't get past that. While all of my rivals won a festival, I'm the only one who can't take their next step in achieving their goal. Heck, even Ash won a league before I won a Grand Festival." Shocked, Clemont widened his eyes as he shouted "ASH WON A LEAGUE?!?!"

"Yah," Dawn said, adding a chuckle at the end. "But I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. I can't figure it out." Clemont let out a small smile as he put an arm around the girls shoulder, the sort of thing Ash did with him.

"You know," Clemont said, earning Dawn's attention. "Ash told me that he has been traveling for a long time and battled many gyms. When he lost to Alain in the Kalos League, he said that it was the closest he had ever been to tasting a league victory." Dawn paused and stared at the boy. Clemon went on. "Ash has been taking on leagues, but keeps losing. But he never gives up. And now, he won a league." Clemont stopped and looked into the eyes of the Sinnoh girl. "It's time for you to take your next step towards achieving your goal." A rouge tear left the girl's eyes as it traveled down her cheek. Her heart beated faster and faster as she got closer to the blonde boy.

"Hey guys!" Bonnie yelled, running back to the two teens. "What's the hold up?" She turned to see Dawn crying and saw Clemont, one arm around Dawn. Bonnie put two and two together and steam flowed out of her ears. "CLEMONT! WHAT DID YOU DO TO DAWN!" Clemont gulped and waved his arms in the air, breaking his half hug with dawn.

"N-Nothing," he stuttered, scared of his little sister. He wasn't usually scared of Bonnie when she got mad. But when that girl is mad, she is mad. Bonnie glared at her brother as she stomped towards him and pulled his ear.

"You can't just make girls cry like that, especially to your future wife," Bonnie said as she dragged him to the gym.

"Bonnie, what did I tell you about saying those things in public," Clemon wined. Bonnie continued to pull Clemont's ear, leaving the Sinnoh girl behind. Dawn thought about Clemont as she put a hand where the boy's arm once was. She smiled sheepishly as a tint of pink rose from her cheeks. Maybe...

"You coming Dawn?" She looked up to the blonde girl standing at a distance from her, pulling her brother's ear still. Dawn smiled and started running towards them. Maybe he isn't so bad after all, Dawn thought as she caught with the Kalos siblings.

The entrance of the building stood tall as the trio gradually walked closer to the doors of the gym. Bonnie looked over to Clemont who stood there smiling at his little sister. He was proud of his sister, the fact that she came a long way for this moment, and he wants to cherish this moment with her. Bonnie gave him a gleeful smile as she closed her eyes and took a deep breath, opening her eyes, facing the door. Dawn smiled at the girl, though she only met her for barley a month, Dawn took her as her young sister. With passion, Bonnie knocked on the hard metal door. She felt the warmth through the door from the burning flames in the mountain. The door slowly opened and out came a person, who Dawn widened her eyes, surprised.
