As Paul made his way to the docks, he remembered all the new and old faces he saw during last night's experience. He never really thought about others other than himself and now his pokemon's feelings too, ever since the battle between him and Ash in the Sinnoh League a few years back. He wandered to the port and grabbed his ticket and decided to take a break and sit on the edge of the pear. He opened up his backpack and looked at an empty pokeball which contained an old ally of his, but abandoned and caught by his foe. He stared at the ball with a stern grip, then threw it into the sea. He regretted his decision of getting rid of chimchar, but never really apologized to it after. Not even after the league. It was his burden, but he can't escape, not yet. He then got up from his spot and made his way to the ships. He was about to get on until he heard a familiar voice.
"Paul, I never knew you were here in Kanto," Paul turned around and saw a certain pokemon breeder standing in front of him. Though his appearance looked the same, his fitting attire was different. It has been a long time, hasn't it, Paul thought to himself as he let out a small smile.
"Nice to see you again Brock."
"So you're a pokemon doctor now?" Paul asked as he took a sip of water. Both Paul and Brock watched the wave crash against the ship as it went across the water, heading towards Cinnabar Island.
"Well, pokemon doctor in training," Brock said as he let out a light chuckle. He put his back to the sea and faced the ship's quarters. "I'm guessing you're here to take on Blaine?" Brock asked. Paul turned to face the old Pewter City Gymleader and smirked. Brock smiled and took out a pokeball out of his jacket. He then gave Paul a grin and started walking away from the edge. "I saw a battlefield on the ship before we got on," Brock said as he showed Paul his pokeball in his hand. "So let's have a battle. I wanna see how strong you are." Paul entered the battlefield and saw Brock already on the other side. He smirked and took out a pokeball out of one of his pockets. "Alright," Brock said as he threw his pokeball up into the air and sent out a blue flash of light, revealing his Steelix onto the battlefield. "This is going to be a one on one battle. The last pokemon standing is the winner. Now send out your pokemon." Paul smirked and threw out his pokeball on the field, revealing his Aggron. He roared as he landed on the ground, creating the crater underneath his feet. "You can go first," Brock said, letting out a smirk.
"Ok," Paul said as he pointed to the enemy pokemon. "Aggron, you flash cannon." Aggron opened his mouth and a shining light lit up and aimed at the Steelix. Aggron then unleashed a scorching beam running straight to other pokemon.
"Steelix, use dig!" Brock shouted. Steelix dug quickly underground and dodge the beam, making it hit the outer walls of the arena. A whole opened up and revealed an angry trainer.
"Hey what did you do that for?!?!" The trainer questioned the two battlers. "I'm going to fine you for that!"
"Barry?" Brock asked as he turned to face the other Sinnoh trainer. "What are you doing here?"
After the battle of true strengths, Brock, Barry, and Paul decided to take a lunch break at the cafeteria on the boat. Barry then started talking about his past adventures, journeying through the Kalos reign and finally settled down for a bit before going back to battling in other leagues. Paul sighed as he listened to the endless blabber from the blonde trainer. Brock turned to Paul and gave him a humble smile.
"So how many badges do you have Barry?" Brock asked as he turned his head, facing the blonde. Barry opened his bag and took out a case where he kept his badges. He then showed his three badges to the others and smirked.
"I have taken down a few gyms and am thinking of taking down the gym here," Barry explained as he started to put away the case of his badges. Paul let out a grunt as he looked out the window. He didn't care to listen to Barry, though he was one of his obstacles he had to go through during his journey in Sinnoh. Yet he didn't give his best when he battled the blonde in the league, he thought it would be pointless to use his energy. But he wished he could have turned back time, just to hit the rewind button. But now... It's time to start over.
