Serena smiled as the group walked through the forest, laughter filling the atmosphere. She smiled as she turned to the Kanto boy talking to the Electric type gym leader, watching the blonde girl play with Dawn. She giggled and turned her head to face May, who looked gloomier than usual.
"What's wrong with you?" Serena asked the Hoenn girl. She sighed as she looked down at the ground.
"Drew said he is going to pick his cousin up from the airport," May said. She sighed once more as she pulled out her map. "And that is in Vermilion City."
"Why don't we go there then?" Serena asked. May looked at the Kalos girl with a sour look on her face.
"But the next contest is in Celadon City." Serena gave her a sympathetic look, remembering how she felt those first nights when she was apart from Ash. Just then, an idea popped into the girls head as she nudged the Hoenn girl on the shoulder.
"Why don't you pull a Dawn and meet him in Vermilion city," Serena said, grabbing her friend's attention. "Like Dawn said earlier, there's going to be tons of opportunity to compete in the contests this year, so why don't you meet up with Drew in Vermilion City." Mat through about it for a minute, until a devilish smile went on her face.
"That isn't a bad idea," she said as she gave Serena a huge hug, thanked her for the idea and went to the Sinnoh girl to tell her the news. Serena chuckled as she felt an arm around her shoulders. A chill went down her spine as she turned to see Ash smiling at her, inches away from her face. Serena jumped in fright, pushing the boy away, making him tumble to the ground. The boy laughed out loud as Serena watched him get back onto his two feet.
"You should have seen your face," he said as he continued to laugh even louder. "It was priceless." Serena scolded at the boy, but then brushed it off as she turned her head away from the boy.
"That wasn't funny," she said, pouting like a little kid. Ash smirked and shrugged.
"I don't know," the boy said. "Your face says otherwise." he then pointed to her cheeks as they turned redder.
"Stop it," the Kalos girl said as she pushed the Kanto boy away again. Ash then laughed once more, but then felt a tap on his shoulder. He turned around to see the Kanto girl smiling at him.
"You ready?" Chloe asked. A confusion plastered on his face.
"Ready?" Ash replied. "What do you mean?" Chloe puffed her face, as she pouted quietly to herself. She then brought herself together again and took a deep breath.
"Well," she started. "Aren't you coming with us back to the lab?"
"Oh," Ash said, remembering the work he has with the professor. He let out a sour grin and rubbed the back of his neck as he thought about it for a bit. He thought about the fun times he had traveling again, but thought about the fun journeys he had with Goh. He closed his eyes as the two girls watched the boy decide. Ash then opened his eyes and smiled at the Kanto girl.
"Sorry Chloe," he said as she quickly glanced at the Kalos girl next to him. "But I think I'm going to travel around Kanto with these guys for awhile." Chloe grinned as she listened to Ash go on about traveling and how he missed traveling through the outdoors. Even though Chloe wanted to go back to the Lab, her heart felt like it was cut in half. She missed her family, her pokemon, her friends at school. But she thought about the small moments she had with the boy that made her take her first step out of her comfort zone. Her mind went to Goh, then to Ash. She thought about the memories they made together. She smiled as she nodded, agreeing to the Kanto boy in front of her.
"I get it," she said as Ash finished. "Well, I guess I'm going to travel with you guys." Both Ash and Serena smiled at the girl as they giggled to themselves. "What's wrong?" Chloe asked.
"Oh, nothing," Ash said as she walked over to the girl and gave her a pat on the shoulder. "I'm glad you're coming." Her heart pounded faster as she felt the heat coming up to her cheeks. What is this feeling? She asked herself as she watched Ash and Serena walk away to talk to Goh, telling him the news.
Night fell shortly and the group started to pitch their tents up. Ash wiped the sweat off his face as he finished putting up the final tent while Clemont and Serena got dinner ready. Dawn laughed as she watched Bonnie and her pokemon jump around the riverbed.
"Bonnie, you should get out of the water," Clemont said as he looked over to his sister. "We don't want the same thing to happen now do we?" he said as he looked over at Ash and Serena. The two teens turned away from each other and blushed in embarrassment. Bonnie laughed, making the Sinnoh girl more intrigued about what happened during their journey. Dawn then leaned closer to Bonnie who was just getting out of the water, drying herself off.
"What does he mean 'like last time,'" Dawn asked, making Bonnie remember and laugh loudly. Dawn looked at the little girl more confused and asked once more. Bonnie got herself together and smirked at the Sinnoh girl, remembering that Dawn had a slight crush on the Kanto boy."Well," Bonnie said as she put a finger up to her chin, trying to remember all the details. "One night when my brother, Ash, Serena, and I were traveling around the Kalos reign, Ash was training in a nearby river at our campsite. The next morning, he got really sick, so Clemon and I went to the nearest town to go grab some medicine for him. We left Serena at camp so she can watch our stuff and Ash, but when we got back to the camp we saw him battling a guy and his pikachu." Dawn shook her head and laughed.
"Sounds like Ash," the Sinnoh girl said as she continued to chuckle. "That boy never gives up a battle." Bonnie nodded, then let out a sly smirk.
"Yah," the blonde said. "But when we walked closer to the boy. It turned out it was Serena, dressed up in his clothes and battling for him." Dawn's eyes widened and her mouth dropped, making Bonnie laugh. "You should have seen your face." Dawn looked at the two teens who were talking to Goh and sighed.
"They're pretty close," Dawn said. Bonnie nodded.
"They are childhood friends," the Kalos girl said, causing Dawn to turn her head to Bonnie.
"What do you mean?"
"If you want the full story, you should ask Ash or Serena yourself," Bonnie said with a smirk. Dawn then looked back at the Kanto boy and sighed. Bonnie felt bad for Dawn, how she is watching the man of her dreams be taken in front of her, and she can't do anything about it. Bonnie sighed. "You like him still do you?" Dawn let out a tint of red on her cheeks. Bonnie giggled and patted the coordinator on the shoulders.
"Well," Dawn started. "I don't think so anymore."
