Chapter 11: Paving the Path

 Serena waited out front of the Pokemon Center as rain poured down on her. She waited for the others to return in the cold weather. Sniffing, she looked at her tablet and let out a sorrow sigh as she walked into the building. She was drenched in the cold rain. "No luck?" Ash asked as he played with Pikachu on the sofa. Serena shook her head, making Ash put on a confused look. "I wonder where the others went." Serena sat down next to Ash as she continued to look at her tablet in hope of any luck of their friends texting her. She sighed once more and turned to the Kanto boy.

"Hey Ash," Serena said. Ash looked at her with a gleeful look.

"What's up?" he asked.

"What are you going to do after well..." She paused. Serena thought for a minute. Did she want him to stay with her? Ash chuckled and smiled at the Kalos coordinator.

"Well, I have no plans really," he said as he continued to play with his pokemon. "Would you like me to journey with you?" Serena thought for a bit. Does she? Her head started to spin around faster and faster as looked at Ash. "Are you ok?" Ash asked, getting more worried as he put down Pikachu. Serena shook her head slowly, making her feel more drowsy.

"Ash, I'm totally fi-" and just like that, she fainted down onto the sofa, making Ash catch her head. Worried, he ordered Pikachu to grab some towels. The pokemon nodded and left the two trainers by themselves for the very first time in forever. Ash looked at the fainted girl and laid her head on his lap. He watched the girls breaching as her stomach slowly rose and descended into her body. Ash took out a pokeball and threw it up into the air, revealing a Lucario standing in front of the boy.

"Lucario, can you go grab some wet rags," Ash said to his pokemon as he put his hand on the girl's forehead. "She's burning up really fast." Lucario looked at his trainer as he stared at the girl on his lap. The pokemon smirked at his trainer, making Ash confused. He then noticed what the pokemon was thinking and rolled his eyes. "Can you just get some please." The pokemon nodded and ran away, looking for some wet rags for the girl. Ash turned to face the sleeping Serena on his lap, staring at her doze face. He smiled and whispered under his breath, "Don't worry Serena," he said as he kissed her forehead. "You'll get better in no time." He looked around, yet Lucario, nor Pikachu came back yet. No matter what, he had to keep his worrying to a minimum. He remembered the last time he had a breakdown, ending him and one of his pokemon stuck in the middle of a snow storm. He remembered the time when he was down about not fulfilling his Greninja's full potential, making him outcast everything for a short period of time. He remembered the face that Serena made to him when he yelled at her. He remembered the face that made him go crazy, more like feel horrible about himself. A tear fell off his face and dripped onto the girl's cheek. Serena slowly opened her eyes and saw a crying Kanto trainer above her. Her cheeks reddened and slowly opened her mouth.

"Ash," she said sickly. Ash opened his eyes and saw the girl awake. His cheeks warmed up, but didn't care, yet he tried to hide the feelings of the girl.

"You're going to be ok," Ash said as he put a hand on her forehead, checking her heat. She coughed as she smiled at the boy.

"It's only a cold, really I'm fine," she said as she slowly laid upright. Ash gave her a worried look and saw both Pikachu and Lucario coming back with the towels and rags.

"Here," Ash said he took a rag and put it on her forehead. "You should lay down for a bit. You need to rest so you can do well tomorrow."

"Ok dad," Serena said as she laid her head on Ash's bag. She closed her eyes and smirked as the boy got up from his seat. "Don't do any funny business." Chills went down Ash's spine as he spun around to see a now sleeping girl on the sofa of the Pokemon Center.
