Chapter 26

I put Demetri's basket back on the cart and just stare at the gifts from Yasmine and Kyler. Mainly Kylers because he has a note. I'm sitting on the side of the bed with my legs dangling off, debating whether to read it or not. I don't want to put my mind back to what happened that month but at the same time, I can't help but wonder what it says. What could go wrong with reading it, I mean it was so long ago, right?

I get up and reach for the note.

The note:

Dear Lillian,
When I heard you were in the hospital, I couldn't believe it. It's been so long since we've talked. It's almost like us "talking" never happened. I don't regret anything that's happened between us,
I'm sure you do but it all still happened and neither of us will forget it-

"Hey Baby" Hawk walks through the door causing me to shut the note and put it back right away. He walks over to kiss me and pulls away "What was that?" he asks.

"Oh nothing just some gifts from friends" I smile at him as he puts a bag next to me. He reaches into the bag and pulls out a container of his mom's chocolate chip cookies and the set of Harry Potter movies.

"I know the third movies your favorite but I wasn't sure which one you'd want to watch" He grins at me. He's so sweet. I thank him and decide to watch Deathly Hallows part 1.

"Are you going to cry again when Dobby dies" I joke.

His mood completely changes at my words, "I was a nerd then. Don't bring that up again." I frown, "Sorry".  When we first watched the movies it was so much fun. The fact that he basically wants to forget about it and not bring it up hurts. He ignores my
reaction and puts the movie on the tv. He lays down in my bed next to me putting his arm behind me and letting me rest my head on his shoulder.

My phone goes off. I lift my head up to reach it but he grabs it first.

"Why the fuck is he texting you?" Hawk demands showing me a text from Demetri.

"We were starting to talk again. We're just friends"  I say.

He laughs annoyed, "He's a nerd. Don't you remember what he did to me at the school fight?" Memory flashes back to me of Demetri kicking Hawk into the trophy case. He's trying to make me feel bad for what he did to him, it's not working.

"I'm not saying it was right but you did hunt him down first. He apologized to me. He was just checking in since he heard I was here" I try to comfort him. I don't get why he's getting so angry, I mean we were all friends. Just because they aren't anymore doesn't mean I can't.

He scoffs and gets up, "What basket did he get you?" he asks and I point to the basket with the sodas.
He walks over to it, starting to dig through the basket. Picking everything up one by one.

He shakes his head. "What?" I ask.

"He got you all your favorite things. Disgusting. Why is he trying so hard" He laughs annoyed.

"What do you mean. He's just being kind" I say.

"Kind? He's trying to get you to like him even though you're my girl and he knows that" He says pacing back and forth around the room.

"What? No, it's not like that at all. He knows I'm with you. He's just checking in on me, it was nice of him"

"Why the hell are you defending him" He yells.

"I'm not defending him. You're just being unreasonable."

He scoffs and starts to walk towards the door
"Where are you going?" I ask.

"I'm taking a walk! Before I say something I shouldn't," he says and walks out of the room. I don't get why he's being like that. I mean Demetri was just being considerate, he has nothing to worry about. I'm with him, not Dem.

I grab my phone and check Dems message. I reply back and say thank you for the basket. I shut my phone off ignoring his next text. My mind wanders back to Kyler's note. Maybe Hawk walking in was a sign not to finish reading it.

FLASH BACK 1 YEAR AGO

*Texts between Kyler and Lillian*

Kyler💜
Hey, wanna hang today?

Uh, not sure. I'm not feeling too well.

Come on babe, we're going to the movies. I'll pick you up along with Yas, Moon, and Brucks.

Fine. I guess I'll go.

Good. Wear my favorite top, ok? It looks good on you.

Kyler and I were never confirmed as a couple. We just talked and flirted as we were one. I'll admit I do like him a little bit and I get the hint that he does too. Yasmine always says he talks about me but I think she just wants us together so she can say she had some part in it.

I change into a purple crop top that shows off my chest and shoulders, the top Kyler loves. I throw on a pair of ripped black jeans with purple airforces. I stand in front of the mirror observing every angle of my body. Him liking this specific top makes me a tad uncomfortable but if he likes it, I guess it's ok.

Kyler's jeep pulls up and I hop into the front while Yasmine and Brucks are in the back. "Hey beautiful," he says. I smile at him and he leans over and kisses my cheek.

END OF FLASH BACK

My mom walks in, explaining to me she's talked to Johnny. Letting me know he's ok since I was supposed to talk to him today. She said they found Robby at the rehab center seeing his mom. I never understood what Robby never saw about his mom. She basically abandoned him but he still loved and cared for her deeply. Either way, he's in juvie now and I think I'm going to go see him once I'm out of here. I'm supposed to get out tomorrow as long as my tests and oxygen levels are ok.
