"It's complicated," I tell both of them. Eli rolls his eyes while Miguel slightly laughs. The bell for class rings and everyone makes their way to their first period.

"Well I'll talk to you guys about it at lunch," Miguel says and walks away.

Eli stands in front of me with his arms crossed and an angry look on his face. I take one look at him and look away, smiling.

"What are you smiling at?" He asks annoyed.

"nothing. I'm going to class" I laugh, shaking my head and walking away.

"We're going to the same place Lillian" he runs up behind me, walking by my side. His hand reaches mine
"Can we go talk?"

"There's nothing to talk about. We're good, we're fine, we're ok"

"There's a lot to talk about it. You can't just ignore what happened. I get not wanting to talk about it last night but come on"

"I have no idea what you're talking about," I say sarcastically. I walk away from him and into the classroom.

He walks into the same class and sits down at the table behind me. I sit down next to Yasmine and pull out my notebook.

"Why'd you leave this morning without me?" He whispers to me. I ignore him, continuing to face forward. "I'm just going to keep talking if you're just going to ignore me"

Yasmine turns around in her chair facing him. "Hey Hawk. Shut up" she smiles at him and turns back around. He groans, smacking his arms on the table.

"Hey, you ok?" she asks me. I smile at her and nod my head yes.

The teacher walking up to me places a packet of papers and notebooks on the table in front of me.

"What's this?" I ask him.

"All the work you've missed for the past couple of weeks. It's due by next Friday"

I look at him confused. "Are you serious? You know why I was out. I didn't know I'd miss that much school!"

"I don't care why you were out. You missed work and now you need to make it up"

I look around the classroom and find everyone's eyes on me. "I'm sick and was in the hospital. If I came here instead of there I could be dead right now and all you're worried about it is me making up your work?" I whisper to him.

He crosses his arms in front of him. "Do you want to go to the office miss Hills?"I look at him dead in his eyes and stand up out of my chair. Picking up my bag and rushing out of the classroom. I've been in a bad mood ever since I woke up this morning and this teacher just set it off even more. All my feelings, my anger, just ball up inside of me. I keep it all to myself but once I speak out about it, I'll get in trouble and told that I'm wrong for feeling like that.

I walk into the principal's office and sit down in one of the chairs until an administrator comes out.

"Hello, Lillian. It's nice to see you again. How are you doing?" Counselor Blatt asks.

"Could be better. Look, I didn't do anything wro-" Eli walks through the door, cutting me off.

"It's not her fault. Mr. James was putting a lot on her when this is the last thing she needs to worry about right now" He claims.

"Thank you, Eli. But why are you here? Did he send you down here too?" she asks him.

"No, I followed behind her down here. I figured you should hear another student's side of it" He turns to me and winks.
