Maybe try speaking with one of the Roscoe brothers, you know the one who hates me.
That sentence floated around my mind for hours, it was the only thing that was on my mind. I knew where Freddie lived, in the flats beside Price Slice with Lindsey and her son. I tapped my foot before picking up the note which I found. I rummaged around the draw in my desk until I found my scissors. I chopped the first half of the note off and put the second half in my pocket and walked down the stairs.
"Where are you going? We were going to go to the Hutch for tea," Nana shouted.
"There's somewhere I've got to be," I explained, putting my shoes on.
"Where?" Porsche asked, she always butted into other people's convocations.
"No where that concernes you, I might join yous later," I told them, walking out the front door and down the street. The weather was quite cold and I wish that I had put my coat on, but it was too late to turn back. I pressed the buzzer and waited for a reply. Everyone had heard rumers that it was Freddie Roscoe who killed Mercedes, but the police had never had enough evidence to actually charge him with murder, and also Mercedes body had never been found.
"Hello?" Lindsey called from the microphone on the wall.
"Hi, it's Ellie-Anna, is Freddie home?" I asked.
"Why, he's at the loft," Lindsey said.
"Alright, it doesn't matter," I smiled, walking away from the buzzer on the wall and walked into the loft which was just next door.
"Hello, Freddie?" I shouted, walking up the stairs that was inside the loft.
"Up here, in the office," He shouted back, I didn't know whether he knew it was me or was just pretending to know who it was, however he didn't ask who was there. I carried on walking up the stairs, they were metal just like the ones that were outside. Freddie wasn't in the office, the door was closed and he was standing behind the bar. He looked up and looked at me.
"Oh, it's you," He sighed and I walked towards him.
"I need to ask you something," I started and he put down what he was doing and looked over.
"You aren't really believing the rumers that Grace is spreading, are you? I didn't kill Mercedes," He growled.
"Read this," I whispered, passing him the note.
Maybe try speaking with one of the Roscoe brothers, you know the one who hates me.
"Where did you get this from?" Freddie gasped.
"Mercedes' jewellery box," I replied.
"Well I know nothing," Freddie smirked.
"I know more than you think," I whispered, making sure nobody else was in the room or someone on the stairs didn't hear.
"What do you know," He whispered back.
"Tell me what happened the day she died, or I'll go to the polcie," I smirked and he pulled me into the office, locking the door behind him.
"She caught me and Lindsey," He began. "He caught us having an affair, she demanded a lot of money, money we didn't have, in order to keep her quiet. So I told her to get lost then came here, she followed and demanded even more money. I told her that if she asked again I would kill her, Grace witnessed this and she's oviously using it against me," Freddie explained.
"So you threatened to kill her, then she really did die?" I smirked, not beliving a thing he said.
"I'm telling the truth, I promise. I had nothing to do with Mercedes for anything else that day, I didn't see her at all for the rest of her life," Freddie hissed.
"What ever," I smiled.
"You know your own way out," Freddie sighed, opening the office door and leaving. I turned around, and placed my hands on the desk, where I'd just been sitting. Their was another little envilope on the desk, addressed to me. I opened it.
Next clue, open the pipe. You know, the little door beside the wall. Open that up and take what's inside, out and put it in your bag.
- Mercy.
I knew the pipe she ment, I felt around the back where I couldn't see and surely enough the little opening fell off and nearly smashed on the ground. I shoved my hand in and pulled the insides out. It was only a black bin bag with something inside, I shoved it in my bag and put the little door back on the pipe.
"See you around then," I said to Freddie, walking out the fire exit on the top, where the stairs were outside. Porsche, Celine, Nana and Lockie were outside the Hutch and they waved at me when I walked down the stairs into the village.
"Come here, we're going for food," Nana shouted, I began walking over. My phone buzzed.
You're not going to play happy families without me, are you? Get home and look in that bag.
-Mercy.
"I've got somewhere to be," I shouted, running back off up the hill. I heard them all sigh and I carried on walking towards the house, I was rushing and I kept pushing my key in upside down. When I was inside I didn't lock the door, however I put the latch over so either way nobody would be able to get in. I marched up the stairs and opened my white bag which had the black bin bag inside. I gentally placed it on my duvet and untied the knot which was in the top. Inside was a grey pillow case and I took what was inside their out. It was a white towel with red blood stains on it, inside there was a knife, a bloody knife. The knife that was used on Mercedes, I was holding it, covered in her blood with my finger prints on the knife. I threw it back in the cloth and shoved it in the bin bag. I ran into the bathroom and scrubbed my hands and around my finger nails to make sure every bit of dried, horrible blood was off me. I walked back into the bedroom and recieved a text message.
I'm sure you can start to figure out who killed me, can't you? It's more complicated than it looks,
-Mercy.
It wasn't Freddie, I had this strange feeling that it wasn't. Thing's were more complicated than Freddie. I opened my wardrobe and pulled all the winter jumpers out the top of it, placing the black bag in there and covering it back up with the jumpers.
