Amanda hated psych evals. It wasn't that she couldn't pass, of course she could, the BAU wrote the questions after all. It was more that she disliked talking to therapists because they never really help her as much as they should and Quantico had recently gotten a new therapist named Dr. Fitzgerald. Amy didn't know much about her but she knew that the FBI had hired her and they had fumbled terribly the last time hence hiring a new shrink.
That's where Amanda finds herself the day she's meant to be reinstated if everything goes well. She sits in the chair as she waits for Dr. Fitzgerald to get everything ready. Finally, the young woman sighs and shoots the Hotchner girl a smile. "So, you're here for a psych eval correct?"
"Yup, to get reinstated."
"Can you tell me about the incident that happened?"
"An unsub, that's what we call the serial killers we track, it means unknown subject," Amy explains before she can ask. "An unsub named George Foyet broke into my apartment. He climbed my fire escape and broke the window in my room. He most likely hid in my guest room while he waited for me and after I put my gun in my room, where I keep it, without turning on my light, I went into my kitchen when I heard someone behind me. I assumed it was my roommate and when I discovered Foyet I tried to get a knife but he had removed them from the kitchen so I figured I should try to call for help.
"When I lunged for the phone he broke a vase over my head. I fought back the best I could before he caught my foot when I attempted to kick him and threw me onto a glass table. Things get a little fuzzy after that because I was mostly running on adrenaline as my head injury started to kick in. I remember trying to switch our positions but I fell to the side and then I remember him saying that I wasn't his usual type but he wanted to teach my brother a lesson before he...raped me. After that, he left and I passed out."
"Do you have nightmares?"
Amanda frowns before shaking her head. "Weirdly, no. I used to get them bad when I was younger because I was molested by two different people when I was ten and twelve but I didn't get any nightmares this time."
"Do you think it's because you haven't really processed the incident?"
Amanda scoffs at this. "Trust me, I have processed it. I just recently manage to not flinch when my boyfriend touches me even though I know he would never hurt me."
"Do you think your boyfriend could be the reason you don't get nightmares? Is there any possibility that you may get nightmares while away on a case?"
"I mean nightmares happen sometimes but my boyfriend has been gone for days at a time before and I was fine."
"What about Foyet? He was never caught. How often do you think about him?"
"Not often anymore. It was difficult at first because while I was readjusting my legs to hold my weight after the coma it was hard not to remember that it was his fault that I was there but I know that he's good at hiding. We will find Foyet but until then there are other cases to work, other people to save. If he consumes my thoughts, he wins and you can't let an unsub win because that gives them the control they crave."
She studies the blonde for a moment. Dr. Fitzgerald was well aware that the BAU had written the question guide but Amanda seemed to truly believe what she was saying and she wasn't sure if she was lying or not. Regardless, with the answers given, she had no choice but to sign her form. "Congratulations, Agent Hotchner. You're cleared mentally for active duty." Amanda stands up with a smile.
"Thank you. Have a good day!" She grabs the paper before heading down to the gym that she had grown accustomed to training with Morgan in for her physical evaluation. She's surprised when she walks down there and finds the muscular man waiting for her. "Derek? What are you doing here?"
