Baby Fever is defined as the name for the longing that some people experience relating to the desire of having a child (or grandchild) of their own. It tends to primarily affect childless adults who are of parenting age after they encounter a baby and especially when they hold him or her in their arms; however, people who already have children are not immune. Most people assume that it only happens to women but Amanda could attest that wasn't true.
She could tell that Spencer craved children, especially after having his second godchild. He didn't explicitly say anything to her but she could see the longing and envy in his eyes every time he held Rachel, which was a lot. Amy was almost positive that if Spencer had any vacation days left he would use them all to spend as much possible time with the newborn. Amanda, however, didn't see the big deal.
Of course, she loved the little girl and doted on her but she didn't have any desire to have a child of her own. She couldn't even fathom the idea. She firmly believed that she would be an awful mother and couldn't bear to put that on a child. But would it be worth it to make Spencer happy? He would be an amazing father, she was sure of that. And maybe the baby only needed one decent parent and she knew she would love her child. Would that be enough though?
_____________
While Hotch was away on Paternity leave, Amanda was stuck picking up his slack, which wasn't a lot since she had been doing it for weeks as he worried about a pregnant Kristen. This only gave her more time to work on her secret assignment.
She knew that investigating that email from Director Adams would screw her over in the end but she couldn't help it, she had to protect Spencer. Luckily, she was good at covering her tracks so it couldn't be traced back to her. Unluckily, Harold Adams knew just how curious the girl was. When she got too close to drawing his attention, she enlisted the help of the Alpha Unit.
While she didn't know what the elder Adams's intentions were, she trusted Zach explicitly and knew that the whole unit would be up to help not only her but Spencer. What she didn't account for was them enlisting Harrison's help. Now, the investigation was an officially unofficial FBI investigation with Amanda at the helm.
It was while going through the database she had created with a link between the FBI and CIA agents that she discovered the oddness with Emily. She was observant enough to realize that something was wrong with the onyx beauty. She was jumpy and more tired. Amanda and Spencer had even overheard her talking on the phone saying that Lauren Reynolds was dead.
That was what prompted Amanda to confront Emily. She knew that Lauren Reynolds was her undercover name in the Ian Doyle case. Amanda herself had played a role in the takedown of Ian Doyle, not that Prentiss seemed to remember her. Which is why, after their most recent case, she invites the dark-haired woman to dinner.
She doesn't take her to Tyler's restaurant in D.C. wanting a more secluded place to have their important conversation. When they arrive at the slow restaurant, their drink order was taken immediately and the moment the waitress was out of earshot, Emily pinned Amanda with a dark look. "What the hell is this, Amanda?"
Amanda is slightly taken aback by her anger but being a virtuoso of keeping expression from her face shows none of it. "This is a friend who is concerned about her other friend."
"What's there to be concerned about?" Emily questions hostilely.
"You know what I'm talking about."
"Amanda, for your own protection, don't do this," she orders and Amanda scoffs.
"I'm more than capable of taking care of myself, Emily, and you don't know these people like I do. You worked this one case and got in too deep. I did it for six years. It doesn't matter if people know about Doyle or his escape. It doesn't matter if you push all of us away and try to handle this yourself. We are leverage. He will use us regardless of our involvement, Em. What about Lacey? She doesn't even have our training. Keeping her out of the loop could very well get her killed."
