SOMETIME IN THE PAST
The group of scientists gathered within the same room, all their eyes on the large screen on the wall. "As you all can see, this chart shows how many people have been infected and those that have passed after being infected." Ryan notified his colleagues.
He clicked a button on the remote he held and glanced back to the information, "This shows which age groups have been affected, as well as how long they live before the bug thoroughly ends its journey." Hums ran through the room as all the occupants studied the statistics.
"On to a new and exciting topic. I have created a new element called, Pixalte and we will be commencing testing in a few days." Ryan ended the slides and sat down on the head chair, "The substances I used for this new product will be kept a secret and only the president will know. For safety purposes."
No longer keeping their professionalism, the scientists commenced speaking to one another, discussing the news. "I can see how curious everyone is but it will remain that way under the presidents command, please have a seat as the president will be joining us today. I am not sure how long the brief will be but I advise you all to pay very close attention and take as much notes as possible."
As soon as he finished his sentence the door opened, the first to enter was a soldier before he stepped aside and allowed the president to make his appearance. "Alright let's get down to business." Zion announced as soon as he saw the people standing around looking confused. The president walked over to the table and sat down at the other end of the table, opposite Ryan.
The blonde haired male kept his eyes on the lead boffin, "Breakdown." "The virus keeps getting worse, with all the things that we can see now, it will be with us for years." Zion's face became stoic as the once serious topic turned consequential, "We haven't been able to locate where this virus came form and how it spreads, although we do have a major problem that has been found. Children are being delivered with the illness."
"Mothers which have the sickness are passing it onto their babies and unfortunately they come out still born. Some which are lucky enough to have been alive end up disabled, brain dead. Due to the circumstances people cannot take care of their new born and turn to adoption or...the parents kill their child." A silent sadness filled the room as some people bowed their heads, shame taking them over as they know of one who decided which.
Ryan ended his rundown and slid the file in front of him towards the president, "This is a review of all that I just discussed." Zion opened it and scanned the documents, "Take this back to the office, get my secretary to look through it, summarize it and give it back to me." Amusement shone in the raven haired mans eyes, it was already cut to the point and yet the president wanted it lowered more.
"If there isn't anything more to discuss, let's end this here." Zion ended the meeting, pulled out his chair and stood up, "I need to speak to you, privately." He flattened his dress shirt and walked out after meeting his eyes with the scientist.

PRESENT
The room was slightly darker then Ryan remembered and as he scanned the papers laying on the table, he couldn't protect his mind from the memories. Pictures scrambled his brain as he tried to make sense of what he was reading, "She was diagnosed before she gave birth, could it be possible that Terra might have it too?" He asked out loud and the response was immediate.
His hands came to hold his head as he fought between the good and evil. She is his daughter, the only thing he has left in this new world but if she had the sickness it could possibly revive once more. A groan of frustration left his lips, he had to sustain the leftover humans if there was to be any hope for the species. Ryan was struggling between him being a father and scientist.
Father. He scoffed at the word, looking back at what he had done he realized what an awful one he was. Truly he could never call himself that, his little girl had to do so many despicable things, things a child should never have to go through. From the moment she was brought into this world he new something wasn't right with her, her vitals were and growth were off.
Ryan watched her at all times as her mother Terresa was diagnosed, making sure the kid had no sudden changes but as soon as the idea to give her the cure came to his thoughts, he had hope. Hope that she could become stronger and she did, just not in the way he expected. After a few months he saw her doing things no human had been capable of doing before and he was interested, his intelligent mind taking over his fatherly instincts.
He started to do tests on her, seeing how her mind reacted to situations and comparing it to an average human. Her brain was exceptional, those tests did nothing but further her skills, making her nothing less then extraordinary. Terra's ability got stronger and she learned something new with each day.
The raven haired wasn't a stranger to something like this occurring as someone much older then Terra had developed similar traits. The curiosity bestowed on the girl was only because she seemed to be progressing faster then the boy and no one could figure out why. Thinking back to his life as he reread the research, he believed he finally found out that answer.
Now all he had to do was give his findings to his president and pray that no harm comes to his remaining family. Nora's advice flashed behind his eyes, "Someone like me doesn't deserve a second chance. I already lost her the day I hurt her."
