I looked over my book and straight at Jeremiah's back. A few weeks back, he decided he was done with me avoiding him, and he just started taking me to his office every single morning. We don't really talk to each other.
It seems to be all right with him, and it's very much ok with me. I didn't want to have anything to do with him after he hit me. Of course, he apologised and brought me various gifts to get me to forgive him.
Suddenly he dropped a screwdriver and snapped me out of my thoughts. I flinched slightly. He picked the tool up and looked back at me. I swallowed heavily and turned my gaze to the pages.
"I apologise." He spoke. I nodded weakly.
"Would you like to see what I've been working on?" He asked me.
I've been so bored those past weeks I sincerely considered saying yes. I could see hope flickering in his pale eyes. Any emotion he showed was dim, but after a while, I learned how to read him.
"Fine." I shrugged, stood up from the couch and walked up to him.
He stared down at me with a surprised expression. I swiftly walked past him and focused all my attention on the table covered with tools and scraps of metal.
"Why are you trying to make a hologram?" I asked him curiously. His eyebrows creased.
"Well, that's a complex number for single-frequency lightwave." I poked the paper on the table.
"That's a laser." I picked up the small device.
"If I were stupid, I would try to attack you with it." I noted and looked up at him. He chuckled and nodded.
"Of course, then again, if I were smart, I would find a way to weaponise it." I added.
"We could do that together." He suggested. I snorted with dry laughter and set the device on the counter.
"The problem isn't the science. The problem is you breathing down my neck all the time." I sighed and ran my fingers through my curls.
"Well, I-"
"Yeah, yeah." I cut him off and waved my hand dismissively.
"You can't risk anything." I grinned sarcastically and walked backwards. He just stared at me.
I took a frustrated breath and looked around the room. I've spent so much time in it I wanted to throw up whenever my eyes fell on a maze or a blueprint.
"Do you have something I could tie my hair with?" I asked him. He nodded and pointed to his desk.
I sighed, came up to it and opened the long drawer. I looked through the numerous paper and other clutter until I found a black hair bobble.
Then I noticed a pair of his old glasses. I smiled weakly to myself, tied my curls in a loose bun on the top of my head and took the glasses out. He was staring at me curiously.
"Are those the ones with prescription?" I muttered as I looked through them at him. He shook his head.
I put them on, and his eyes widened slightly. I chuckled at how clearly bewitched he was by me wearing something of his. Then I came up to him and grabbed a screwdriver.
"So your eyes really have healed. I knew it." I shrugged.
He swiftly leaned down to me. I immediately raised the tool to his throat. He grinned slightly and looked deep into my eyes.
