Chapter 40

Izzie and Cristina slept on either side of her and Meredith laid on her back staring at the ceiling. What was he doing right? He never said she couldn't call him.

Call him... I'm gonna call him.

Meredith sat up and she reached over Izzie to grab her phone. She got off the bed as quietly as possible and went into the bathroom.

She sat with her back to the door and she dialed his number.

It rang once

It rang twice

it rang three times.

No Derek.

she called him again and there was still no answer.

Meredith leaned her head back on the door and inhaled and exhaled. He didn't answer. He could have been sleeping but he also could have been out with a girl. No no she could not think like this she'd drive herself crazy.

She laid down on the cold bathroom tiles and closed her eyes.

She tried to sleep but she struggled she's gone nights before without his arms around her but this was different she didn't know if he was going to return or not.

He had indeed assured her of a return but what if he changed his mind? What if he found some new york girl who wasn't broken and damaged and didn't kiss other guys. He'd find a new life re-adopt his accent and find a bigger house than this and he would never call again.

She wouldn't know what to do if that were the case. So she decided to attempt to forget him. She loved Derek but thinking about him constantly and worrying about him it wasn't good for her she needed to find the thing that would heal her.

So she decided she'd live the life she did before that incident all those years ago. She got off of the floor and went into her main room. She grabbed her clothes,oils, and sprays went back into the bathroom. Brushed her teeth and gargled mouthwash. She then turned on the water in the shower and let it heat up. She stepped into the shower after removing her clothes and she let the water run through her hair. She remembered all the times Derek used to wash her hair and she was overcome with sadness, that she shook off after a few moments of feeling it and continued on her with her shower. She massaged her lavender leave in conditioner in her hair and waited a few more minutes before washing it off.

She put down the battle and grabbed her body wash. She put some on her sponge and she scrubbed her body and rinsed it off. She grabbed her towel and proceeded to get ready in the bathroom. She put on Dereks shirt and her jeans with a light sweater.

She exited the bathroom with her stuff in hand and put them back in their respectable locations. Cristina and izzie were still sleeping seeing as they had the day off and Meredith ventured downstairs to make herself breakfast.

She decided on a quesadilla and orange juice. She grabbed the tortillas,some bacon and sliced chicken and mozzarella cheese.

She turned on the pan and smeared butter on it. She let it heat up a bit and then she cooked the meat. After a few minutes of flipping the meat back and forth she scooped it up and she put in in a bowl and pushed it off to the side. She put some more butter on the ban and she crisped up her tortilla. She put the meat on the left side and cheese and she closed it. She let it cook on both sides until the cheese was completely melted. She turned off the stove and put the frying pan and spatula in the sink. Then the left over Ingredients.

She put her quesadilla into a plate and poured herself some orange juice. She brought her stuff to the table and took a bite. She moaned at how good it tasted and took a sip of orange juice. She closed her eyes for a second an remembered all the times she'd make her and Derek quesadillas and he'd joke about how she should go on cooking shows. She smiled at the memory instead of becoming upset at it.

She finished her food and juice and put her dishes in the sink. She walked to the couch and turned on the tv.

She sat there and watched tv until she heard someone come down the stairs.

"Meredith? It's like 7:45 what are you doing up?" Mark asked rubbing his eyes

"I can't sleep I think of him all the time"

"Oh maybe you should get laid " he shrugged

"Wha-why would I get laid??" She said turning her head

"Sleep with Nathan or some random guy it'd take your mind off of him"

"I don't want to take my mind off of him"

"Yes you do, I haven't know you for long but I know the constant worrying must be tiring Mer "

"It is but I feel like I'd be cheating if I slept with someone " she said bringing her knees to her chest

"You guys aren't together"

"Thanks mark" she said rolling her eyes

"I'm sorry I didn't mean.. I didn't mean to remind you I'm just saying"

"I don't want to sleep with anyone mark I just want Derek to come back"

"I know you don't want to I'm just saying it might help"

"It could but I can't even think of that right now"

"Just a suggestion anyways do you have food to eat?" He said opening the fridge

"There's tortillas and cheese and meat so"

"Cereal?"

"Yeah on top of the fridge "

"Coco puffs really?"

"What they're good" she replied defensively

"Your a child"

"And your an old man"

"Ouch that hurt" he said faking hurt

Mark grabbed him self a bowl and spoon. He grabbed the milk out of the fridge and the cereal and poured himself the cereal then the milk and joined Meredith on the couch.

"Meredith he's going to come back. He loves you that kind of love doesn't just go anywhere "He said taking a bite of cereal

"I hope so"

"Hey why are you eating the "childish cereal" " she said pushing his arm

"They're good" he laughed

"Oh really now they're good"

"Mhm, what are we watching?"

"Uh I don't know I wasnt really paying attention "

"You turn on tv to not pay attention?"

"Can you be quiet"

"Sorry sorry have you seen the nun?"

"No wanna watch it?"

"Yeah turn it on mer"

Meredith went to safari on her tv and put in soap2day. She searched for the nun and they watched together run comfortable silence.

A/N there will be no Romance between mark and Meredith. They're like siblings in this story. Plus I respect slexie and merder I don't want them to mix. Sorry not a lot of stuff is going on and that I took so long to release this chapter
